Norwegian Ambassador to the UN advances Palestine-Israeli conflict to ministerial level

07 Jan 2022; MEMO: Norway's Ambassador to the United Nations (UN), pledged to advance the UN Security Council discussions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to a ministerial level this month, to restore its focus on this decades-long conflict, reported Wafa news agency.

Mona Juul expressed deep concern at the lack of international attention to the issues in Palestine and Israel, which has been compromised as a result of multiple other conflicts raging across the Middle East.

Eminent Egyptian scholar persecuted in Egypt but honoured abroad

08 Jan 2022; MEMO: King Faisal International Prize for services to Islam was awarded this year to the Egyptian Professor of Theology, Hassan Al-Shafi'i, jointly with the former President of Tanzania, Ali Hassan Mwinyi. Al-Shafi'i's name has repeatedly circulated Egypt's media over the past years due to the repetitive injustice he has experienced due to his opposition to the Rabaa massacre.

UK: 1m sign petition asking Tony Blair's knighthood rescinded

07 Jan 2022; MEMO: More than one million people have signed an online petition asking that former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair's newly announced knighthood be rescinded.

The petition was created by Angus Scott at change.org as soon as the New Year Honours were announced on 31 December.

Scott accused Blair of causing "irreparable damage to both the constitution of the United Kingdom and to the very fabric of the nation's society."

India: Delhi court acquits four men in riots case

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) A Delhi court on Friday acquitted four men in a case related to robbing, vandalising and setting a house and shop on fire during the riots in the national capital in 2020.

Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat acquitted Dinesh Yadav, Tinku, Sahil and Sandeep. "All the accused have been acquitted. All accused are directed to file their respective bail bonds on Monday i.e. January 10, the judge ordered.

Turkey condemns Israel's approval of new settlements in East Jerusalem

07 Jan 2022; MEMO: Turkey, on Thursday, condemned Israel's approval of new plans to construct over 3,500 additional illegal settlement units in occupied East Jerusalem, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"The settlements built by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories contravene international law, including UN resolutions," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Morocco groups reiterate rejection of normalisation deal with Israel

07 Jan 2022; MEMO: The Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Normalisation has reiterated its rejection of all forms of normalisation with Israel, calling to immediately revoke the agreements signed with the Israeli government, despite the passage of a year since their announcement.

The group, which includes a number of civil society organisations, noted the great response by Moroccans to the protest movements called for to mark the one-year anniversary of this "ominous deal".
