Separatist-sponsored strike disrupts normal life in Kashmir

Srinagar, Sept 28; PTI:  Normal life was affected in Kashmir on Friday due to a strike called by separatists to protest killing of a civilian during a cordon and search operation in the city yesterday.

Authorities have imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar to maintain law and order.

Bank manager held for removing Rs 18 lakh from ATM in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 29 (PTI) A branch manager of the Overseas Bank was arrested in connection with alleged theft of Rs 18 lakh from an ATM in Shamli, police said Saturday.

Robin Bansal, who was absconding, was arrested Friday and more than Rs 14 lakh was seized from his possession, Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar said.

19-year-old woman gang-raped in West Bengal

Jalpaiguri (WB), Sep 27; PTI:  A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in an under-construction building in Jalpaiguri district, police said Thursday.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening at Jahuri Talma in Jalpaiguri Sadar block, when the woman was going to her sister's place, the police said.

According to the woman, two youths stopped her cycle, grabbed her and took her to an under-construction building, a police officer said, adding, three other persons were waiting there and she was gang-raped.

Maharashtra BJP leader booked for rape

Mumbai, Sep 26; PTI: A case of rape has been registered against Maharashtra BJP leader Madhu Chavan, police said Wednesday.

Chavan is the chairman of the Maharashtra Affordable Housing and Development Authority.

The case was registered at Chiplun police station on Tuesday on the instructions of a court and a probe into the matter is on, said Devendra Pol, Senior Police Inspector of Chiplun police station.

According to the complainant, Chavan allegedly assaulted her repeatedly between 2002 and 2017 on false promises, he said.

Lawyer Who Pursued Case Against Yogi Adityanath Arrested For Rape

GORAKHPUR; 27 Sep 2018; GANASHAKTI: A lawyer who had filed a petition in court 11 years ago, against the Uttar Pradesh Chief Yogi Adityanath has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman.

Superintendent of Police (City) Vinay Singh said the woman was allegedly raped by Pervez Parvaz and another man Mahmood alias Jumman, said to be an 'occultist'. She had come seeking a cure for some illness, After a medical examination, it was confirmed that the woman had been raped. 

Local court transfers Amit Shah's case to Allahabad special court

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 28 (PTI) A local court has transferred a case against BJP president Amit Shah for allegedly violating the model of conduct by making "objectionable" speeches in 2014 here to a Allahabad special court.

Police had already given a clean chit to Shah, but the court has not yet accepted the report as there was no reply from the complainant, the then assistant returning officer Ram Kumar, in the case, a prosecution lawyer said Thursday.

Koregaon-Bhima case: SC refuses to interfere with arrests of five activists

New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday refused to interfere with the arrest of five rights activists by the Maharashtra Police in connection with the Koregaon-Bhima violence case and declined to appoint a SIT to probe their arrest.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, in a 2:1 verdict, refused the plea seeking the immediate release of the activists.

Women now allowed to enter Kerala's Sabarimala temple

New Delhi, Sep 28 (PTI) The Supreme Court Friday paved the way for entry of women of all ages into the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala in Kerala.

The five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, in its 4:1 verdict, said that banning the entry of women into the shrine is gender discrimination and the practice violates rights of Hindu women.

The CJI said religion is a way of life basically to link life with divinity.

Bengal BJP’s Bandh call flops

Kolkata, September 26; GANASHAKTI: It became a show of strength  by the Sanghi’s  as the Bandh call by the BJP became a terrible  as working class people from Transport workers to Mill workers went to join in the work, and many even  under strain helped to flop the bandh call.

There were  sporadic violence  however that could not deter people  from venturing out. In Pandua BJP workers bombed a school in frustration as the school was running despite the Bandh call.

3 Kashmiri seperatists and a soldier killed in J&K

Srinagar, Sep 27: Three Kashmiris and a soldier were killed in two gunfights in Anantnag and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Qazigund of Anantnag district after receiving information about the presence of seperatist in the area, an army official said.

It is alleged that the search operation turned into an encounter when the seperatist opened fire at the security forces.
