India: Three more arrested in Beed 'honour killing' case

Beed (Maha), Dec 25 (PTI) Three more persons were arrested in connection with the suspected honour killing case of a 25-year-old man in Beed district of Maharashtra, police said Tuesday.

Among them, Balaji Landge and Sanket Wagh, key accused in the case, were nabbed Monday from Amravati district of the state, while the third accused, Gajanan Kshirsagar (30), was nabbed Tuesday from the city, a senior police official said.

Indian Journalists' Union condemn detention of scribe under NSA

Imphal, Dec 25 (PTI) The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) Tuesday condemned the detention of journalist Kishorchandra Wangkhem under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).

In a joint special general body meeting held on Tuesday at the Manipur Press Club, here both AMWJU and EGM condemned the detention of Wangkhem under NSA, said a press release issued by Sukham Nanda, the general secretary of AMWJU.

India: Juvenile held for raping and killing woman

Puducherry, Dec 25 (PTI) A juvenile was apprehended for allegedly raping and killing a 25-year-old woman at her home in Kuyavarpalayam village here, police said Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rahool Alwal said the woman's mother had filed a complaint with police on December 18 that her daughter was found dead in her home with her throat slit.

The victim was alone after her mother and brother had left for work.

Post-mortem examination suggested that the woman was raped and then killed, the police said.

Russian Pacific Fleet ships conclude visit to Sri Lanka

VLADIVOSTOK, December 24. /TASS/. A group of ships from Russia’s Pacific Fleet has concluded its visit to Sri Lanka, the Fleet’s press service said in a statement.

"Today, a group of ships from Russia’s Pacific Fleet, consisting of the Varyag missile cruiser, the Admiral Panteleyev anti-submarine destroyer and the Boris Butoma large sea tanker, has concluded its visit to the Colombo naval base in Sri Lanka where it arrived on December 20," the statement reads.

45 flights delayed from Delhi as dense fog, pollution bring down visibility

NEW DELHI, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- As many as 45 flights were delayed at Delhi's international airport amidst dense foggy conditions and high air pollution levels on Tuesday.

The entire north India, including the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and parts of Madhya Pradesh have been witnessing dense fog over the past few days, particularly during morning and evening hours.

India: Villagers got infuriated at molestation

KANPUR: Angered with the police personnel’s sudden change in behaviour, the villagers could not control themselves and beat them with lathi and danda. The police reached Sachendi village in Ghatampur Block of Kanpur Nagar district on Sunday. The police freed one person who was taken hostage by the villagers for molesting a woman.

Police freed the accused Rajkumar and this heedlessness infuriated the villagers who beat them severely.

India: HC convicts man let off in rape case 21 years ago

Mumbai, Dec 23 (PTI) The Bombay High Court has overturned a 1997 trial court order acquitting a 41-year-old man in a rape case of a minor girl in 1996.

A division bench of Justices Indrajit Mahanty and V K Jadhav Saturday convicted Macchindra Sonawane (who was 19 years old at the time of the incident) and sentenced him to seven years in jail for raping the 11-year-old girl.

The bench, in its judgment, said the trial court had erred and acted in a "casual or cavalier" manner, in determining the victim's age as that of being a major.

India: PIL in SC against govt's move to monitor any computer

New Delhi, Dec 24 (PTI) A PIL was filed on Monday in the Supreme Court challenging the government's notification authorising 10 central agencies to intercept, monitor and decrypt any computer system.

The petition filed by advocate Manohar Lal Sharma seeks quashing of the government's December 20 notification.

According to the government's notification, 10 central probe and snoop agencies are now empowered under the Information Technology (IT) Act for computer interception and analysis, Ministry of Home Affairs officials said.

Hyderabad, Dec 24 (PTI) A self-styled spiritual guru and his brother have been arrested here for allegedly cheating several people of over Rs 50 crore in a multi-level marketing racket, police said Monday.

E Kumar Girish Singhand Dileep Singh were taken into custody based on a complaint by a woman from whom the Rs 21.78 lakh was collected for investment in 'DREAM BRIDZ', a social business network, assuring huge profits within a short period if the investors enrolled two new members each, a police release said.
