KANPUR: Angered with the police personnel’s sudden change in behaviour, the villagers could not control themselves and beat them with lathi and danda. The police reached Sachendi village in Ghatampur Block of Kanpur Nagar district on Sunday. The police freed one person who was taken hostage by the villagers for molesting a woman.
Police freed the accused Rajkumar and this heedlessness infuriated the villagers who beat them severely.
According to the reports, a farmer r/o kotra had gone to a fair on Sunday evening. His wife was all alone in the house. Taking advantage of this situation Rajkumar, a neighbour, entered the house forcibly and molested the lonely woman.
Husband found the door locked when he returned. With the help of neighbours, he broke open the door, and found Rajkumar inside. They restrained Rajkumar while relatives informed police of the incident.
The policemen comprising of Mahendra Maurya, Vimal Kumar, Santosh Kumar arrived the scene in PVR van. A few minutes later more policemen arrived from the nearby police station. Without understanding the exact reason, the policemen freed Rajkumar. Infuriated with police's stupidity, villagers got infuriated and and beat them.
Later, the Circle Officer, along with policemen reached the village and arrested the accused Rajkumar, husband of the molested woman and those scuffled with policemen.
A case for molestation and another case for scuffle with police were registered.
