India: Zee Entertainment to merge with Sony Pictures

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) India's largest publicly-traded television network Zee Entertainment Enterprises will merge with Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI), capping days of high drama during which the firm's shareholders sought removal of key officials.

Sony, which will invest USD 1.575 billion, will hold 52.93 per cent stake in the merged entity and Zee the remaining 47.07, Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) said in a statement.

India: 16 trains to remain cancelled on Jhansi-Kanpur section

Kanpur: As many as 16 trains have been cancelled or diverted as the single line section will be blocked for the movement of trains till September 28.

Giving information about this news, Deepak Kumar, Chief Information Officer, Northern Railways, said several trains have been cancelled given the blockage.

Operations of 16 trains will be stopped. Apart from this, several trains including the Lucknow LTT Special will run on diverted routes during this period.

India: Students confuse at missing lines of passage in online exam

Kanpur: It is reasonable on the part of the schools that they have been conducting their online examinations in just half an hour.

On Wednesday morning an eminent secondary school in the Jajmau area oversaw its first examination of moral science subject for Class VIII.

Though some students faced initial trouble in getting an online question sheet, the error in the very first question was overlooked.

The class teacher is a considerate lady who had to read two lines verbally as the answer was available in these lines.

Taliban appoint hardline battlefield commanders to key Afghan posts

Sept 21 (Reuters) - Afghanistan's Taliban rulers announced several senior appointments on Tuesday, naming two veteran battlefield commanders from the movement's southern heartlands as deputies in important ministries.

Main Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Mullah Abdul Qayyum Zakir will be deputy defence minister, while Sadr Ibrahim was named deputy minister for the interior. Both men had been expected to take major positions in the new government but neither was named in the main list of ministers announced this month.

Taliban expand economic team as Afghan crisis deepens

Sept 21 (Reuters) - Afghanistan's Taliban government bolstered its economic team on Tuesday, naming a commerce minister and two deputies as the group tries to revive a financial system in shock from the abrupt end to billions of dollars in foreign aid.

Nooruddin Azizi, a businessman from Panjshir province north of Kabul, was named as acting minister of commerce and industry and would start work immediately, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told a news conference.

Indian gov't warns of reciprocal measures on Britain's COVID-19 vaccine policy row

NEW DELHI, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government on Tuesday described the British government's decision not to recognize Covishield as a legitimate anti-COVID-19 vaccine as "discriminatory" and warned of reciprocal measures if the matter was not resolved.

India's Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said during a media briefing that the country supplied 5 million Covishield doses to Britain at the request of the British government, describing the non-recognition of the vaccine as a "discriminating policy."

India: Mini containers come for better transport structure in Kanpur

Kanpur: The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai dispatches of dwarf or mini containers to Kanpur. The assignment was flagged off by the Union Shiping Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal towards the Inland Container Depot in Uttar Pradesh.

This Port Trust shipment fosters an efficient system for streamlining rail movement of cargo, claimed Central Railway. It will help for a competitive cost advantage by lowering hinterland logistics.

Dwarf containers are compact and are about 2.16 feet (660 mm) shorter than the traditional ISO canisters.

India: Green Park to host test match on Nov 25: UPCA

Kanpur: Green Park will once more be an attraction for cricket fans in November. This is so because the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association has decided to host a Test match here on November 25.

It has also been reported that Rajeev Shukla, Vice-President, BCCI, has approved it, a top official of the cricket control board has ratified the idea of the test match possibly against New Zealand.

As we are well aware of the fact that the city has been a Test match centre of the cricket matches so the cricket association has shown a preference for hosting the match here.

Daesh claims twin blasts targeting Taliban in eastern Afghanistan

20 Sep 2021; MEMO: The terrorist group Daesh has taken credit for Sunday's back-to-back bombings in eastern Afghanistan that claimed at least three lives, Anadolu Agency reported.

The group's Amaaq propaganda news agency posted a statement on Monday about the incident in Jalalabad, the capital of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province bordering Pakistan, claiming that "more than 35 Taliban militia members were killed or wounded" in the attack on a Taliban patrol vehicle.

Afghanistan: Taliban appoint deputy ministers

Kabul, Sep 21 (AP-PTI) The Taliban announced a list of deputy ministers on Tuesday, failing to name any women, despite an international outcry when they presented their all-male Cabinet ministers earlier this month.

The list was presented by government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid at a new conference in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
