Pakistan: FM off to New York to attend 76th UNGA session

ISLAMABAD, Sep 20 (APP): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi left here for New York on Monday to attend the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During his visit from September 21-25, he will participate in various high-level meetings and side events, and also deliver a talk at the prestigious think-tank Council on Foreign Relations.

The foreign minister will hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts and the UN leadership.

Afghanistan: Efforts underway to resume int'l commercial flights in Kabul airport: director

KABUL, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Efforts are underway to solve all technical difficulties before international commercial flights resume in Kabul International Airport, airport director Abdul Hadi Hamadani said on Monday.

Domestic flights as well as cargo flights carrying aid items are operating and authorities are working to solve a number of technical problems for the resumption of all commercial international flights, Hamadani told Xinhua.

He made the remarks after local media reported earlier in the day that the airport has launched international flights.

Photostat shops are in abundance but photo studio is not available in the bustling markets of Jajmau. 

India: Facebook appoints former IAS as Head of Public Policy

New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) Facebook India on Monday said it has appointed ex-IAS officer and former Uber executive Rajiv Aggarwal as the Director of Public Policy.

He succeeds Ankhi Das, who quit in October last year. She was embroiled in a controversy for opposing enforcement of hate-speech rules against right-wing leaders in the country.

India: Raped and harassed teen found hanging at home in UP

Kanpur, Sep 19 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her home in Baraur area of Kanpur Dehat district after she was raped and harassed by a youth living in her neighbourhood, police said on Sunday.

The 25-year-old accused has been arrested, they said.

The victim, a Class 10 student, has left behind a suicide note written in English in which she stated that she is committing suicide on her own will and no one will be responsible for her act, the SP added.

India: BJP govt weakening all pillars of democracy: Cong

Lucknow, Sep 19 (PTI) The Congress party on Sunday accused the BJP government of trying to weaken all pillars of democracy and said the Godse ideology can be defeated only by that of Mahatma Gandhi'.

"The Congress has worked to strengthen all pillars of democracy but the Narendra Modi government is doing the opposite. Efforts to weaken democracy is the BJP's ideology which can be defeated with the ideology of non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi," media convenor of UP Congress Lalan Kumar said, addressing a media event here.

India: Man held for rape of five-year old girl in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Sep 20 (PTI) The alleged rape of a minor girl by a migrant labourer from West Bengal and the demand by the girl's parents and local people urging the police to hand over the accused following his arrest led to tense moments at a police station here.

The minor was allegedly raped on Sunday by Saurav Mistry, a 23-year old labourer from 24 Parganas in West Bengal after he took the five-year old girl on the pretext of showing her a video on his mobile phone.

India: Channi takes oath as Punjab CM

Chandigarh, Sep 20 (PTI) Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi was on Monday sworn in as chief minister of Punjab.

He is the first Dalit to hold this post in the state.

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered oath to Channi at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhawan here.

Channi took oath in Punjabi.

The Congress on Sunday picked Channi as chief minister of Punjab after Amarinder Singh resigned from the post.
