Bangladesh Receives New Batch Of Sinopharm Vaccines From China

DHAKA, Sept 24 (NNN-BSS) – Bangladesh received a new batch of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines from China.

A plane of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying five million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday, Health Ministry spokesperson, Maidul Islam Prodhan, said today.

“We’ve received five million Sinopharm vaccine doses from China yesterday,” he said.

On Sept 18 and 11, Bangladesh respectively received five million and 5.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by China’s pharmaceutical Sinopharm Group.

India: Man held for molesting woman at railway station in Maha

Thane, Sep 24 (PTI) A 21-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman at a railway station in Maharashtra's Thane district, railway police said on Friday.

The Vasai Railway police have arrested the accused Raju Pappu Yadav under sections 354(A) (assault or using criminal force to any woman) and other relevant provisions of the IPC, senior inspector Sachin Ingawale said.

New Delhi, Sep 24 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to Preet Singh, one of organisers of an event at Jantar Mantar where communal slogans were allegedly raised last month.

The petition is allowed. The petitioner has been granted bail, said Justice Mukta Gupta.

India: Centre's refusal for caste Census of backward classes exposes BJP: Mayawati

Lucknow, Sep 24 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati on Friday expressed grave concern over the Central government's refusal for caste Census of backward classes and said it exposed the BJP of using the community only for its electoral interests.

Mayawati's reaction comes after the Centre told the Supreme Court that caste Census of backward classes is administratively difficult and cumbersome" and excluding such information from the purview of Census is a "conscious policy decision .

New Delhi, Sep 24 (PTI) The Centre has given its approval for a CBI probe into the death of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri in Allahabad, officials said on Friday.

The seer, who was the president of the largest organisation of sadhus in India, was found hanging by his disciples at the Baghambari Mutt in Allahabad on Monday.

Indian Defence Ministry places order for 118 battle tanks

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) The Defence Ministry on Thursday sealed a contract to procure 118 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) Arjun for the Indian Army at a cost of Rs 7,523 crore, in a major move to boost its combat capabilities.

The defence ministry placed the order for the Arjuna Mk-1A tanks with the Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Avadi, Chennai.

The MBT Mk-1A is a new variant of Arjun Tank designed to enhance fire power, mobility and survivability, infused with 72 new features and more indigenous content from the Mk-1 variant

India: Teenage girl gang-raped UP's Surapur

Sultanpur (UP), Sep 23 (PTI) A teenaged girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in a village in Surapur area, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on Wednesday and the accused belong to the same village as the victim, they said.

An FIR has been lodged against Shubham, Abhishek and Dinesh who are absconding, they said.

The victim has been sent for a medical examination and the report is awaited, police said.

Kolkata, Sep 23 (PTI) Former Farakka MLA Mainul Haque, who recently quit the Congress, joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday at a public meeting in poll-bound Samserganj constituency of West Bengal's Murshidabad district.

Haque, who sent his resignation letter to interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday, joined the state's ruling party in the presence of its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

India: Tuition teacher held for molesting girl student in Maha

Thane, Sep 23 (PTI) A private tutor was arrested on Thursday at Kalyan in Thane district of Maharashtra for allegedly molesting a eight-year-old girl student, police said.

The accused, Mudar Talwala, was arrested under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, they said.
