India: Man arrested for setting wife on fire for dowry

Godda, Sep 26 (PTI) A man was arrested in Jharkhand's Godda district for allegedly setting his wife on fire for dowry, police said.

Rajesh Paswan of Kusumara village was arrested on Saturday as a case was lodged against him and his parents at Mufassil police station after his wife Soni Devi died of burn injuries, they said.

Soni Devi, mother of three children, was first tied with a rope by her husband and mother-in-law and then set on fire by sprinkling kerosene on September 16, police said.

Bedi turned 75 on Saturday and his former teammates, friends and admirers from the cricket fraternity came together to pay unique tribute to him through a festschrift of sorts.

India: Yogi Adityanath cabinet in Uttar Pradesh to be expanded

Lucknow, Sep 26 (PTI) The Council of Ministers headed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be expanded on Sunday evening, officials said.

A swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled at the Gandhi auditorium in Raj Bhavan at 5:30 pm, they said.

The officials, however, remained tight-lipped about the number or the names of ministers who will be inducted in the cabinet, barely months ahead of the crucial 2022 assembly elections in the state.

India: Traffic deflection caused for metro work at city's Mall road

Kanpur: As the Metro Rail Corporation is determined to erect a cross-arm inter-section at the Motijheel Station of the Priority Corridor, this construction will extend till Monday morning.

All the vehicles passing through this location will change their course.

Traffic heading towards the Motijheel Station from Mall Road will be diverted towards the left turn before the Motijheel Avenue Road.

Vehicles will be deflected to the road cutting on the right-hand side towards Tree House Lane.

Road Mishap Claims Six Lives In Western India

NEW DELHI, Sept 25 (NNN-PTI) – At least six people died and five others were injured, in a road accident, in India’s western state of Rajasthan, a local police officer confirmed today.

All the victims were youths, going to the state’s Sikar district, for the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teacher (REET), slated to be held tomorrow.

The mishap occurred at Chaksu area, near Jaipur, when the vehicle they were travelling in, rammed into a truck, the police said.

Blast rocks Afghanistan's eastern Jalalabad city

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A blast rocked Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Saturday with no report on casualties, local media reported.

The explosive device, according to local media reports, was placed in a flower base of a street and went off in the morning rush hour.

Security officials in the province have yet to make comments.

Since last Saturday, a series of bomb blasts shocked Jalalabad city and the hardliner Islamic State group has reportedly claimed responsibility.

Witness: Taliban hang dead body in Afghan city’s main square

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The Taliban hanged a dead body from a crane in the main square of Herat city in western Afghanistan, a witness said Saturday, in a gruesome display that signaled a return to some of the Taliban’s methods of the past.

Wazir Ahmad Seddiqi, who runs a pharmacy on the side of the square, told The Associated Press that four bodies were brought to the main square and three bodies were moved to other parts of the city for public display.

India: UP BJP plans its micro schemes for assembly polls

Kanpur: The BJP schedules its micro-management rehearsals for Uttar Pradesh assembly polls in six regions like Kashi, Gorakhpur, Awadh, Kanpur, Bundelkhand, Braj, and Western UP.

The party will also focus on the nomination of charges and the assistant in charge.

They will be stationed at different locations, each with varied responsibilities.

Captain Abhimanyu has been assigned to the Western UP zone, while Arjun Ram Meghwal will be in charge of the Braj zone.

Shobha Karandlaje will be in charge of Awadh. Saroj Pandey will be in command of Kashi.
