Bangladeshi operator provides 5G experience to fair visitors with Huawei support

DHAKA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi state-run cellphone operator Teletalk has brought 5G experience for the visitors with technical support from Chinese telecom giant Huawei at the country's largest "Smartphone & Tab Expo 2022".

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the expo, Bangladeshi Post and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said, for the first time, there is an opportunity for all interested visitors to get a 5G experience at this event. Anyone can take this experience from the Teletalk Bangladesh stall.

India: SSP Ferozepur among 7 IPS officers transferred in Punjab

Chandigarh, Jan 8 (PTI) The Punjab government on Saturday transferred seven IPS officers including Senior Superintendent of Police, Ferozepur.

IPS officer Harmandeep Singh Hans, SSP Ferozepur, has been posted as Commandant 3rd IRB, Ludhiana.

Narinder Bhargav will be the new SSP Ferozepur.

Hans was Ferozepur SSP during the Wednesday security lapse in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy was stranded on a flyover.

India: EVM is no issue now: CEC Sushil Chandra

New Delhi, Jan 8 (PTI) The use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) is no issue now, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said on Saturday, asserting that there is a sense of pride that India has developed a machine which gives accurate and faster results.

His remarks came at a press conference convened to announce the assembly election schedule for Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.

Responding to a question on parties losing elections questioning the credibility of EVMs, Chandra said, "EVM is no issue now."

Snow cleared after deaths of 22 people at Pakistani resort

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Roads at a popular Pakistani resort were cleared Sunday after the deaths of 22 people who were stuck in their cars during a heavy snowstorm as temperatures plummeted, officials said.

More than 4 feet (1 meter) of snow fell in the area of the Murree Hills resort in the town of Murree near the capital Islamabad on Friday night and early Saturday. The heavy snow caused hundreds of vehicles to become buried or otherwise stuck.

Chandigarh, Jan 8 (PTI) Insisting that there was no threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's life during his recent Ferozepur visit, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday sought to target him with a remark of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

One who cares for his life more than duty, he should not take big responsibilities in a country like India, Channi took to Twitter to quote Sardar Patel.

China foreign minister in Sri Lanka to discuss Belt and Road

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi was in Sri Lanka on Sunday seeking to advance Beijing’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative as the island nation tries to rescue itself from a foreign currency and debt crisis, partly due to infrastructure built with Chinese loans that don’t generate revenue.

Wang arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday from the Maldives on the last leg of a multi-city trip that also took him to Eritrea, Kenya and Comoros in Africa.

India: Breach in PM's security: SC to take up matter on Monday

New Delhi, Jan 9 (PTI) The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a plea on the recent breach in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's security in Punjab.

On January, the prime minister's convoy was stranded on a flyover due to a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur after which he returned from poll-bound Punjab without attending the planned events, including a rally.
