India: Bulldozer lifts City Mayor to celebrate party's victory

Kanpur: Quite popular City Mayor and BJP leader Pramila Pandey climbed on a bulldozer to celebrate BJP's grand success in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Several reacted that it remained a novel way of celebrating the party's victory in the election.

She was so overwhelmed with the BJP's win that she ascended on the vacant space of the bulldozer.

Many wanted to know whether the bulldozer came to be known as a political machine or vehicle from now onwards.

India: Muslims also voted for BJP in UP, claims RSS affiliate

New Delhi, Mar 10 (PTI) The RSS-linked Muslim Rashtriya Manch hailed the BJP's victory in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, saying people of the state rejected the "negative politics" of the opposition parties and reposed their faith in "Modi-Yogi style of governance".

It also claimed that more than eight per cent of the Muslim votes went to the kitty of the BJP.

India: 11 UP ministers fail to win their seats

Lucknow, Mar 11 (PTI) As many as 11 ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government failed to win in the 2022 assembly elections, despite the BJP registering an impressive victory.

According to the Election Commission website, of the 402 seats the result of which were declared, BJP won 255. Its alliance partners Apna Dal (Sonelal) bagged 12 and NISHAD Party six.

India: Akhilesh thanks UP citizens for doubling SP's tally

Lucknow, Mar 11 (PTI) Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday thanked the people of Uttar Pradesh for increasing its tally by two-and-half times and said his party has shown that the BJP's seats could be reduced.

Congratulating all the MLAs of the SP-led alliance, Yadav asked them to discharge their responsibilities sincerely.

India: Let MCD polls take place: Kejriwal to PM Modi

New Delhi, Mar 11 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to let MCD elections take place in the national capital, saying postponing polls weakens the democratic system.

His remarks came after the Delhi State Election Commission sought the advice of legal experts on if it can still hold polls for the three municipal corporations here following a communication from the Centre for their unification.

India: Punjab CM Channi submits resignation to governor

Chandigarh, Mar 11 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit following his party's drubbing in the assembly polls.

The Channi-led cabinet, which met for the last time, recommended dissolution of the assembly, paving the way for the constitution of a new Aam Aadmi Party-led legislature.

I have tendered my resignation to the governor, Channi, who went to the Raj Bhawan to hand over his resignation letter to the governor, told reporters a day after the results.

India: Leopard dead body found near Sachendi highway in Kanpur

Kanpur: A dead body of a leopard was found in the field near Sachendi Highway here lately. It caused a stir amongst the villagers.

Police suspect that someone must have killed the leopard and thrown his body in the field.

The police reached the spot as soon as they received the information.

The local people have also informed the forest department and the investigation goes on.

In another similar incident, the body of a dead leopard was found lying in a field in the Moradabad district.

Modi's BJP wins big in India's largest state election

NEW DELHI, March 10 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party won India's most populous state with a big majority, according to the count on Thursday of a state assembly vote that could offer clues to the national mood before a 2024 general election.

The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won or was leading in 255 of the 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh, which it currently rules, according to the Election Commission of India.

Indian gov't signs 125-mln-USD loan agreement with World Bank

NEW DELHI, March 10 (Xinhua) -- India's federal government signed a 125 million U.S. dollar loan agreement with the World Bank to support access to social protection services in the eastern state of West Bengal, officials said Thursday.

"The Government of India, the Government of West Bengal and the World Bank signed a 125 million U.S. dollars International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) loan to support efforts to help poor and vulnerable groups access social protection services in the state of West Bengal," the ministry of finance said in a statement.

India: Kejriwal congratulates people of Punjab for 'this revolution' as AAP appears set for big win

Chandigarh, Mar 10 (PTI) As the AAP appeared set for a clean sweep in Punjab, the party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday congratulated the people of the state for this revolution .

"Many congratulations to the people of Punjab for this revolution, Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, said in a tweet in Hindi.

In the tweet, he also posted a picture of him standing with the AAP's chief ministerial candidate and MP Bhagwant Mann, with both leaders flashing victory sign.
