India: Man buries alive his toddler daughter in Maha

Nagpur, Mar 12 (PTI) A 27-year-old man allegedly killed one of his three daughters, a one-year-old, by burying her alive in a pit in an agricultural field in Washim district of Maharashtra following fight with his wife, police said on Saturday.

The accused Suresh Ghughe was arrested on Saturday, a day after the incident in Wadi-Wakad village in Risod tehsil.

India: Delayed justice turns meaningless: HC CJ Bindal

Mathura, Mar 12 (PTI) Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal of the Allahabad High Court here on Saturday sought to drive home the malady of delayed justice, recalling an incident in which a man refused to take the compensation 25 years after the death of his son in a road accident and asked the court to keep the money.

Justice Bindal narrated the incident while inaugurating the holding of Lok Adalat here and said, Delayed relief often turns meaningless.

Spanish ambassador calls on Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s residence

Pakistan demands joint probe of “accidental firing” of Indian missile: FO

ISLAMABAD, Mar 12 (APP): The Charge d’ Affaires (Cd’A) of India in Islamabad was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday and conveyed the Government of Pakistan’s serious concerns on the press statement issued by the Indian Press Information Bureau’s Defence Wing regarding the “accidental firing” of an Indian missile into Pakistani territory on 9 March 2022 due to ‘technical malfunction’ and the decision to hold an internal court of inquiry.

India: Fire In Delhi Claims Seven Lives

NEW DELHI, Mar 12 (NNN-PTI) – At least seven people were charred to death, after a major fire broke out in Delhi, early this morning, a senior Delhi Fire Services official confirmed.

According to the official, the fire broke out in as many as 60 huts, located near Gokalpur village, in north-east Delhi. Rescue and relief work is still going on, he added.

As many as 13 fire tenders were sent to douse the fire.

“Fire had spread to around 60 huts. So far, seven charred dead bodies have been recovered,” Delhi Fire Services chief, Atul Garg said, over the phone.

India: UP polls; Victory margin less than 5,000 in 49 seats

Lucknow, Mar 12 (PTI) The victory margin of 49 candidates was less than 5,000 votes in the recently-concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

According to the results announced on Thursday, 25 Samajwadi Party (SP) candidates were defeated by less than 5,000 votes while a similar fate awaited three nominees of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

The SP and the RLD contested the polls in an alliance.

India: Man held for raping six-year-old in UP

Bareilly, Mar 12 (PTI) A man was arrested following an exchange of fire on Saturday in connection with the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl, police said here.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan said a case has been registered against the 22-year-old accused under the IPC and POCSO Act.

Police said on Friday the girl went to a stationery shop to buy a notepad at 2.30 pm.

When she did not return home, her grandmother started searching for her.

India: Pilot killed in Army chopper crash in north Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 11 (PTI) An Army Cheetah helicopter on its way to pick up sick BSF personnel crashed near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Gurez Sector on Friday, resulting in the killing of its pilot and injuries to the co-pilot, officials said.

The injured co-pilot has been rushed to a medical facility, they said, adding that his condition was stated to be critical.

The two pilots belonged to Army Aviation Corps and were of the rank of major.

India: Man in Tripura awarded 20 yrs' RI for rape

Agartala, Mar 11 (PTI) A special court in Tripura's Dhalai district sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl three years ago.

The convict, Niranjan Nagbanshi, has also been asked to pay a penalty of Rs 10,000.

Nagbanshi, a villager barged into the house of a nine-year girl Kamalpur sub-division, and raped her on August 18, 2019. Her parents were away during the incident.

Based on a complaint by the girl's family, the police had registered a case under various sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.
