India: One day Indian voter will surprise BJP: Tharoor

Jaipur, Mar 13 (PTI) The Indian voter has always been capable of throwing up surprises and the BJP will also get to know about it one day, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said on Sunday.

His remarks came in the backdrop of the party's debacle and drubbing in the just-concluded assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur.

The Congress could have done much better in Uttarakhand, and in Goa, "we had very good chances of being the single largest party", Tharoor said at the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF).

India: 'The Kashmir Files' to be tax free in Karnataka: CM

Bengaluru, Mar 13 (PTI) Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday announced making the movie 'The Kashmir Files' tax free in Karnataka.

The film directed by Vivek Agnihotri is based on the killings and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir valley by Islamic extremists.

India: Adityanath calls on President Ram Nath Kovind

New Delhi, Mar 14 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday called on President Ram Nath Kovind during his first visit to the national capital after the BJP registered a thumping victory in the state assembly polls.

Adityanath earlier also met senior BJP leader and Union minister Nitin Gadkari.

"Yogi Adityanath called on President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan," the president's office tweeted and posted pictures of the meeting.

India: IIT-K develops automatic composting device

Kanpur: An automatic composting machine developed in collaboration with Imagineering Lab, IIT Kanpur, is deemed to be a meaningful move towards efficient waste management and mitigating climate change.

The device follows a step-wise simplistic process where at first the organic waste goes through the hopper and the inbuilt shredder cuts it into small and uniform pieces.

The finely cut waste then enters into the main body of the machine which contains a unique bacterial solution to initiate the composting process.

India: J-K Budget presented in LS

New Delhi, Mar 14 (PTI) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday presented a Rs 1.42 lakh crore budget for the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2022-23 in the Lok Sabha, amid demands from the opposition that it be given adequate time for studying the proposals.

Sitharaman also presented the supplementary demands for the year 2021-22 totalling Rs 18,860.32 crore for the Union Territory and moved a motion seeking suspension of certain rules to allow the House to take up the discussion on the same day.

India: Villagers assaulted for dancing on BJP's poll theme tunes

Kanpur: A few villagers dancing to celebrate the BJP victory in just-concluded assembly elections were mercilessly assaulted by a group of people in Kanpur Dehat district.

Their folly as reported was that they were swaggering to the tunes of election campaign songs of the BJP.

What reports hinted was that the incident took place at Nyora Mastpur village.

A complaint has been filed at the Rasulabad police station of the district.

India Records 3,116 Daily COVID-19 Cases, Tally Rises To 42,990,991

NEW DELHI, Mar 13 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 42,990,991 today, as 3,116 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry’s latest data.

Besides, 47 deaths from the pandemic since yesterday morning, took the total death toll to 515,850.

The figure came after several months, when the number of deaths from the pandemic fell below 50.

India: Odisha MLA's vehicle runs over crowd, 22 injured

Bhubaneswar, Mar 12 (PTI) At least 22 people, including seven police personnel, were injured on Saturday when suspended BJD MLA Prasant Jagdev's vehicle allegedly ran over them at Banapur in Khurda district, police said.

The MLA from Chilika was also critically injured as he was roughed up by a mob after the vehicle mowed down a section of the crowd which had gathered outside the BDO Banapur's office while election for the block chairperson was underway, they said.

India: Tripura woman beheads husband, keeps head in temple

Agartala, Mar 12 (PTI) A woman allegedly beheaded her 50-year-old husband and kept the blood-soaked head in a plastic bag at the family's temple in Tripura's Khowai district in the wee hours of Saturday, a police officer said.

While Khowai Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty said the reason behind the killing is not yet known, the couple's elder son said his mother has developed a psychological disorder recently and underwent treatment by a local occultist.
