Zelenskiy in Berlin: we can make Russia's defeat 'irreversible': Germany

BERLIN, May 14 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Sunday Kyiv and its Western supporters could make a Russian defeat in the war in Ukraine "irreversible" as early as this year and thanked Germany for being a "true friend" during a visit to Berlin.

Zelenskiy secured a large military boost on his visit, with the German government announcing a 2.7 billion euro ($3 billion) of military aid to Ukraine on Saturday, its biggest such package since Russia's invasion in February last year.

Germany: Ukrainian president says counteroffensive does not aim to attack Russian territory

BERLIN (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Sunday that his country is preparing a counteroffensive designed to liberate areas occupied by Russia, not to attack Russian territory.

Speaking during a news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s goal is to free the territories within its internationally recognized borders.

13 Killed, Six Injured In Clearance Operation In SW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 14 (NNN-APP) – Thirteen people, including six soldiers and a civilian, were killed, and six hostages were injured, in a clearance operation at a military compound, in Pakistan’s south-west Balochistan province, a military statement said yesterday.

The operation was completed after the terrorists attacked the compound of paramilitary troops’ frontier corps, in northern Balochistan on Friday morning, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement.

Russia says two of its commanders killed as Kyiv wages Bakhmut offensive

May 14 (Reuters) - Russia's Defence Ministry said on Sunday that two of its military commanders were killed in eastern Ukraine, as Kyiv's forces renewed efforts to break through Russian defences in the embattled city of Bakhmut.

In a daily briefing, the ministry said that Commander Vyacheslav Makarov of the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade and Deputy Commander Yevgeny Brovko from a separate unit were killed trying to repel Ukrainian attacks.

Russia records 2,996 new daily COVID-19 cases, with 25 new fatalities — crisis center

As many as 332 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Russia over the past day, down 45.1% from the previous day. The number of hospitalized patients rose in 13 regions, while in 57 other regions the figure decreased. A day earlier, 605 people were rushed to hospitals.

Five Taken To Hospital After Car Crashed Into Store In Central Japan

TOKYO, May 14 (NNN-NHK) – Five people were taken to hospital yesterday, after a car plowed into a supermarket in central Japan, according to local police.

At about 9:45 a.m. local time, a passenger car driven by an 80-year-old man slammed into the front of a supermarket in Inazawa of Aichi Prefecture.

Local police reported that all five individuals injured in the incident were female and aged between 60s and 70s. While one of them sustained serious injuries, the remaining four suffered only minor injuries.
