Palestine: Cease-fire between Israel and militants in Gaza appears to hold after days of fighting

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — A fragile cease-fire between Israeli forces and militants in the Gaza Strip appeared to be holding Sunday after a five-day clash that killed 33 Palestinians and two people in Israel.

Turkish citizens to cast their ballot in presidential, parliamentary polls

ANKARA, May 14. /TASS/: More than 64 million Turkish citizens will cast their ballot in the presidential and parliamentary elections on Sunday.

The elections are special partly because they are held during the year when the Republic of Turkey is marking its 100th anniversary.

Polling stations will be open between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. local time (same as Moscow time). Overall, a total of 191,884 ballot boxes will be installed in the country and abroad.

24 Killed, 12 Injured In Zambia Road Crash

LUSAKA, May 14 (NNN-ZANIS) – Twenty-four people died and 12 others sustained serious injuries, when a bus they were travelling in, hit a truck in southern Zambia, the police said, yesterday.

Zambian Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, said, preliminary investigations indicated that the bus, with 35 passengers on board, overturned, falling on the left side of the road into a ditch, after the bus hit the back of the truck. The bus driver is among the injured.

The accident left the bus extensively damaged, and the truck’s rear bumper damaged, Mwale said.

India: Mayawati accuses BJP of misusing govt machinery in UP mayoral polls

Hybrid model for Asia Cup and beyond may end Pakistan-India ‘logjam’ says PCB

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) — The Pakistan Cricket Board is still hopeful India agrees to its hybrid model of hosting majority of the Asia Cup games at a neutral venue in September.

The hybrid model is the brainchild of Najam Sethi, who is the head of the PCB management committee.

Sethi met with the members of the Asian Cricket Council in the United Arab Emirates this week to work out solution after India said it will not travel to Pakistan for the event, apparently because of political tensions between the two countries.

Palestinians celebrate truce victory in Gaza

Tehran, IRNA – People of Gaza poured into the streets to celebrate the ceasefire between the Palestinian resistance forces and the Zionist regime.

According to Palestinian media, the people of Gaza in Jabalia Camp also celebrated the victory by chanting slogans.

The Palestinians residing in the Nahr al-Bared camp in northern Lebanon also celebrated the ceasefire.

The center of Cyclone Mocha made landfall Sunday afternoon in Myanmar’s Rakhine state near Sittwe township wind speeds up to 209 kilometers (130 miles) per hour, Myanmar’s Meteorological Department said.
