"Maoist" banner threatening to kill 2 Odisha MLAs found

Berhampur (Odisha), Nov 3 (PTI) Odisha Police on Saturday recovered a banner allegedly written by Maoists, threatening to kill two MLAs and several police informers in two districts of the state.

The handwritten banner did not mention names of the two MLAs but said they are from Ganjam and Kandhamal districts, police said.

The unnamed police informers on the hit list also belong to these two districts.

India: Cong releases first list of candidates for MP polls

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) The Congress Saturday released its first list of candidates, 155 in total, for the Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, and the nominees included Ajay Singh, the leader of opposition in the state, and former Union minister Suresh Pachouri.

The party has also fielded former chief minister Digvijay Singh's son Jaivardhan Singh and brother Lashman Singh from Raghogarh and Chachoura seats respectively.

Ajay Singh, son of former chief minister late Arjun Singh, will fight from Chruhat.

India: Advocate files complaint against Tharoor over scorpion

Hyderabad, Nov 3 (PTI) A city-based advocate filed a complaint Saturday against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, saying he has hurt Hindu sentiments with his alleged "scorpion" remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently, the police said.

Legal opinion would be sought as Tharoor's speech was made in Bengaluru, they said.

According to the complainant, Tharoor's "comments hurt Hindu sentiments," police said.

Heavy snowfall in Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand

Srinagar/Shimla/Dehradun, Nov 3 (PTI) Heavy rain and snowfall lashed Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttarakhand on Saturday due to Western Disturbance, bringing down the mercury in the hill states.

Surface and air links between the Kashmir Valley and rest of the country were snapped while Srinagar witnessed snowfall in November for the first time since 2009.

India; Kejriwal launches mobile medical service


New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday formally launched the volunteers mobile medical service by flagging off a mobile medical van at his residence.

The mobile medical van will be a key component of this initiative and will be integrated with medical camps that will target communities within 10-15 km radius of Alshifa Multispeciality Hospital, Okhla.

Slow progress of development

KANPUR: Expressing dismay at the progress of development works in Kanpur Division, the divisional commissioner Subhash Chandra Sharma directed the officers to complete the works on the war footing.

In the review meeting here, it was found that there were pending development works of Rs 4.97 crore in Kanpur Nagar. Only 149 development works have been completed so far.

New Delhi, Oct 31 (PTI) The following is the chronology of events relating to 1987 Hashimpura Massacre case leading up to the Delhi High Court on Wednesday sentencing 16 ex-policemen to life imprisonment for killing 42 people of a minority community in Uttar Pradesh.

- May 22, 1987: 50 Muslims picked up allegedly by Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel from Hashimpura village in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

- Victims later shot and bodies thrown into canal. 42 persons declared dead.

Kansas terrorists blame Trump’s rhetoric for planned attack

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Attorneys for Kansas militia members who conspired to bomb a mosque and apartment complex housing Somali immigrants have asked the court to take into account at a sentencing hearing next month what they called President Donald Trump’s rhetoric encouraging violence.

One has asked the judge to also consider the fact that all three men read and shared Russian propaganda on their Facebook feed designed to sow discord in the U.S. political system.

BJP `champion' in taking away tribal lands: Congress

Raipur/Bilaspur, Oct 31 (PTI) Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Wednesday that the Raman Singh-led BJP government in Chhattisgarh has become a "champion" in snatching natural resources away from tribals and handing them over it to businessmen.

It diluted laws for this purpose, he alleged.

"The people of Bastar have been bearing the brunt of this brutal Raman Singh government for 15 years. This government has done nothing except looting jal-jungle-zameen (water, forest and land) of tribals and handing them over to a few businessmen.

CNN not commenting on Lemon’s remark about white terrorist men

NEW YORK (AP) — CNN isn’t commenting about Don Lemon’s statement that white men represent the biggest terrorist threat in the country.

Lemon’s statement, on his show Monday, attracted criticism in conservative circles. He was talking about the negative attention given to a caravan of potential refugees in Central America. Meanwhile, white men are the suspects in recent shootings of two blacks in Kentucky and at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.

Groundskeeper accepts reduced $78 million Monsanto verdict

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A Northern California groundskeeper said Wednesday that he will accept a judge’s reduced verdict of $78 million against Monsanto after a jury found the company’s weed killer caused his cancer.

DeWayne Johnson’s attorney formally informed the San Francisco Superior Court that he would not contest the judge’s decision to reduce a jury’s original $289 million award.

Johnson could have demanded a new trial.

Google employees to walk out to protest treatment of women

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Hundreds of Google engineers and other workers are expected to walk off the job Thursday morning to protest the internet company’s lenient treatment of executives accused of sexual misconduct.

It is the latest expression of a backlash against men’s exploitation of female subordinates in a business, entertainment and politics. In Silicon Valley, women also are becoming fed up with the male-dominated composition of the technology industry’s workforce — a glaring imbalance that critics say fosters unsavory behavior akin to a college fraternity house.
