India: Defamation complaint filed against Shashi Tharoor

New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) A criminal defamation complaint has been filed against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor before a court here for his alleged "scorpion" remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his complaint, Delhi BJP leader Rajeev Babbar said his religious sentiments were hurt.

Malaysia charges another former ally of ex-PM Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian prosecutors charged another former ally of ex-Prime Minister Najib Razak with multiple counts of corruption on Monday as the government continues investigation into the alleged wrongdoing by its predecessor.

Musa Aman, former chief minister of state of Sabah, was charged with 35 counts of corruption involving 263 million ringgit (about 63 million U.S dollars).

The charges involved receiving bribes to approve timber concessions during Musa's 2003 to 2018 tenure as chief minister.

India: AAP welcomes Kejriwal's acquittal in defamation case

New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday welcomed the acquittal of its chief Arvind Kejriwal in a criminal defamation case filed by a former aide of Congress leader Sheila Dikshit and said political battles should not be fought in courts.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal granted relief to the Delhi chief minister citing lack of evidence against him.

India: #MeToo: Assam policewoman accuses IPS officer of sexual

Guwahati, Nov 5 (PTI) A senior Assam police official is the latest to be caught in the ongoing #MeToo storm after he was accused of sexually harassing his junior colleague.

Majuli (HQ) Additional Superintendent of Police Leena Doley has charged Additional Director General (Law and Order) Mukesh Agarwal with sexual misconduct six years back.

Agarwal could not be contacted for his reaction.

Delhi records season's worst air quality ahead of Diwali

New Delhi, Nov 5 (PTI) Delhi recorded its worst air quality of the season on Monday, with the pollution levels inching towards 'severe plus emergency' category due to a change in wind direction and rampant stubble burning in neighbouring states.

The PM2.5 (particles in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres) and PM10 concentrations touched 365 and 503 respectively, touching the 'severe-plus emergency' category, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

India: No need for ordinance on Ram temple: Ramdas Athawale

Kolkata, Nov 5 (PTI) Union Minister Ramdas Athawale Monday said the issue of Ram temple should be settled through discussion among Hindus and Muslims and that there was no need for an ordinance as the the court was yet to pronounce its verdict.

"We can all understand very well the emotions and sentiments of the people of the Hindu community who want construction of the Ram temple. But any decision would be taken after discussion with the Muslim community," Athawale, the union minister of state for social justice and empowerment told reporters here.

India: Power supply disrupted

KANPUR: Despite the state Chief Minister’s strict instructions for 24-hour uninterrupted power supply during the Diwali, the power supply appeared to have not improved in the city. About half-a-dozen power sub-stations in different areas remained inoperative on Sunday.

High-tension electric line of the Chhapar power sub-station was trapped in the morning which caused immediate disruption in the power supply to the general feeder for as many as four hours.

India: Sex racket busted

KANPUR: Acting furtively upon accurate information, the Rail Bazaar police have busted a sex racket in Kakadeo area here. Three people have been arrested so far. A diary was also seized.

The racket was being operated through the Whatsapp. Call girls and gigolos were sent to the customers on demand.

The police are searching for the girls and the boys involved in this spiteful operation. The call detail records were also traced.

The Friday evening shooting at a busy upscale shopping plaza jolted the state capital and police said they were still searching for a motive that led to the deaths of a Florida State University student and a well-known local doctor who was a member of the school faculty.
