Russia 'closely monitoring' tense situation in Kosovo, blames local authorities

MOSCOW, Sept 25 (Reuters) - The Kremlin said on Monday it was closely monitoring what it called a "potentially dangerous" situation in Kosovo, where ethnic Serb gunmen stormed a village at the weekend, battling police and barricading themselves into a monastery.

Russia does not recognise Kosovo, which has a majority ethnic Albanian population, as an independent country and traditionally supports Serbia, with which it has close religious and cultural ties.

Polish experts confirm missile that hit grain facility was Ukrainian - media

WARSAW, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Polish experts have confirmed that the missile that killed two people at a grain facility in southern Poland in November was fired by Ukraine, Rzeczpospolita daily reported, citing sources.

The explosion of the missile in NATO-member Poland fuelled fears that the war in Ukraine could spiral into a wider conflict by triggering the alliance's mutual defence clause, but at the time Warsaw and NATO said that they believed that it was a Ukrainian stray, easing worries about escalation.

More than 325,000 contractors join Russian army in 2023 — Medvedev

MOSCOW, September 26. /TASS/: More than 325,000 contractors have joined the Russian army this year, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting on manning the armed forces.

"We continue to work on supplementing the armed forces with contract servicemen and control combat and morale-bolstering activities," he said.

"From January 1 September 26 this year, more than 325,000 men have been enlisted," Medvedev pointed out.

Israeli minister makes 1st public visit to Saudi Arabia

JERUSALEM, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Israel's tourism minister traveled to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, the first public visit by an Israeli minister to the kingdom, said Israel's Ministry of Tourism in a statement.

Haim Katz "is the first Israeli minister to head an official delegation in Saudi Arabia," the statement reads. The visit also came amid talks between the two countries to normalize relations.

Katz will attend a conference sponsored by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the kingdom during his two-day trip, it added.

Military Helicopter Crashed In Iraq

BAGHDAD, Sept 26 (NNN-NINA) – An Iraqi military helicopter crashed yesterday, in the eastern province of Wasit, due to a technical problem, wounding two crew members, the defence ministry said.

A statement by the ministry said that, a Bell Jet Ranger helicopter crashed at al-Kut Air Base, while conducting a training mission, resulting in minor injuries to the helicopter crew.

The ministry dispatched a technical team to the scene to investigate the incident, the statement said, without providing further details.

Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force Arrested Seven Drug Traffickers

ISLAMABAD, Sept 26 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), arrested seven drug traffickers in various operations across the country, an ANF spokesperson said.

During the operations, the force seized over 115 kg of drugs, including hashish, opium and heroin, while impounding several vehicles that were being used for smuggling, the ANF said in a statement, yesterday.
