A big fire at a police headquarters in northeastern Egypt injures at least 38 people

CAIRO (AP) — A huge fire broke out early Monday at a police facility in northeastern Egypt, injuring at least 38 people before firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze several hours later, authorities said.

The cause of the fire, which ripped through the multistory police headquarters in the Suez Canal province of Ismailia, was not immediately clear.

Taiwan investigating accusation submarine program details leaked

Libya flights to Italy resume after nearly 10 years

TRIPOLI, Oct 2 (NNN-AFRICANEWS) — Flights resumed between Libya and Italy after a nearly decade-long suspension due to a ban by the European Union.

Twenty-five passengers boarded Saturday’s flight, operated by Libya-based Medsky Airways, which will offer a twice-weekly direct connection to the Italian capital, Rome.

The EU stopped flights operated by Libyan airlines and banned them from entering member states’ airspace in 2014, as the country was mired in intense fighting.

At the opening of trading, the MOEX index grew by 0.27% to 3,141.69 points, the RTS index edged down 0.04 to 1,007.96 points.

The dollar-to-ruble rate grew by 0.14% to 98.1 rubles, the euro rate added 0.4% and amounted to 103.76 rubles, the yuan exchange rate decreased by 0.19% to 13.467 rubles.

Mexico: At least 10 people are dead after church roof collapsed in northern Mexico during Sunday Mass

CIUDAD MADERO, Mexico (AP) — The roof of a church collapsed in northern Mexico during Sunday Mass, killing at least 10 people and injuring around 60, authorities said as searchers probed in the wreckage throughout the night and into Monday morning looking for survivors and more victims.

Approximately 30 parishioners were believed to have been trapped in the rubble when the roof caved in, officials said. Searchers crawled under the roof slabs and officials brought in dogs to help search for possible survivors.

Salt water moving up U.S. Mississippi River threatens drinking water supplies

HOUSTON, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Salt water moving up the Mississippi River from the Gulf of Mexico is threatening drinking water supplies in and around New Orleans, the biggest city of U.S. state Louisiana, triggering a big concern of potential lead contamination.

As of Friday afternoon, New Orleans' drinking water was safe, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a news release.
