Palestine slams Israeli refusal to reopen US consulate in Jerusalem

07 Nov 2021; MEMO: Palestine on Sunday decried the Israeli refusal to reopen a US consulate to serve Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, Anadolu reports.

On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said there is no place for an American consulate to serve Palestinians in Jerusalem.

Bennett's statement is a "critical test for the US administration of Joe Biden," the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

S.Korean president's approval rating falls to 34.2 pct: poll

SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating fell 4.5 percentage points over the week to 34.2 percent last week, a weekly poll showed Monday.

The negative assessment on Moon's conduct of state affairs gained 5.3 percentage points to 62.9 percent, according to the Realmeter survey.

Support for Moon's ruling Democratic Party declined 4.0 percentage points to 25.9 percent last week.

The main conservative opposition People Power Party won 46 percent of approval score last week, up 3.4 percentage points from the previous week.

Russia: Nord Stream 2 ready for launch — Gazprom

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/: The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is ready to be launched, deputy department head of Gazprom Alexei Finikov said on Monday.

"The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has been completed and is ready for a start," he said.

Construction of the Nord Stream 2 ended on September 10, 2021. The gas line consists of two strings with the total capacity of 55 bln cubic meters per year from the Russian coast across the Baltic Sea to Germany.

 

Indian Paramilitary Trooper Kills Four Colleagues, Wounds Three Others

NEW DELHI, Nov 8 (NNN-PTI) – A paramilitary trooper, belonging to India’s Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), today killed four of his colleagues and wounded three others, inside a stationed camp, in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, officials said.

The incident happened at about 3:25 a.m. (local time) today, at a CRPF camp in Lingampalli village of Sukma district, about 410 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

South African opposition DA says not to form coalitions with ruling party

CAPE TOWN, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- South Africa's opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) said Sunday that it will not form coalitions with the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party to govern over a quarter of municipalities across the country.

DA will not enter into any coalition agreement with the ANC and the third largest party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), DA leader John Steenhuisen virtually briefed media after the country's local government elections.

UK registers over 30,000 new coronavirus cases

LONDON, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Another 30,305 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 9,301,909, according to official figures released Sunday.

The country also reported a further 62 coronavirus-related deaths. The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 141,805. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test.

There are currently 9,160 patients in hospital with COVID-19.

S.Korea To Crack Down On Hoarders Of Urea Water Solution Amid Supply Shortage

SEOUL, Nov 8 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea will crack down on illegal hoarders of urea water solution, amid a supply shortage of the material, used in diesel vehicles to reduce emissions, the government said today.

Those who do activities cornering the urea water solution market, will face up to three years in jail or a fine of up to 100 million won (84,500 U.S. dollars), according to the joint statement, by the environment and industry ministries, the Korea Fair Trade Commission, the National Tax Service, the Korea Customs Service and the National Policy Agency.

Poland blames Belarus as migrants try to force their way across border

KYIV, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Poland accused Belarus of trying to spark a major confrontation on Monday as video clips showed hundreds of migrants walking towards the Polish border and some trying to breach the fence using spades and other implements.

Warsaw said it had deployed additional soldiers, border guards and police, while neighbouring Lithuania said it might introduce a state of emergency on its border with Belarus.

Indonesian, UAE flag carriers cooperate to extend flight networks

JAKARTA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and its counterpart Emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to cooperate in expanding flight networks on 18 routes connecting Indonesia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Seven Prisoners Escape From Prison In NE Cambodia: Police Chief

PHNOM PENH, Nov 8 (NNN-AKP) – Seven dangerous escapees are being sought, after breaking out of the Stung Treng Provincial Prison, in North-eastern Cambodia early today, said Major General Aun Sivutha, police chief of Stung Treng province.

The seven inmates were spending their prison terms, ranging from four years to life imprisonment, for drug trafficking and theft, he said.
