Georgian ex-president threatened and abused in prison hospital - rights official

TBILISI, Nov 9 (Reuters) - The prison hospital treating Georgia's hunger-striking former president Mikheil Saakashvili lacks proper medical equipment and fellow inmates there have threatened and abused him, a Georgian human rights official said on Tuesday.

"Particular attention should be paid to the environment in which Mikheil Saakashvili is placed, which grossly violates human rights," Public Defender Nino Lomjaria, Georgia's rights ombudsman, said in a statement.

Court orders restoration of Sudan internet access

CAIRO, Nov 9 (Reuters) - A Sudanese court ordered the country's three main telecommunications providers to restore internet access, as the country entered its sixteenth day of a blackout following a coup by military leaders on Oct. 25.

While some Sudanese users have managed to find a connection, the blackout has made it difficult for most people to communicate, particularly with those outside the country.

Iran bans newspaper that linked supreme leader to poverty

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran’s judicial authorities reportedly banned a newspaper Monday for publishing a front-page graphic that appeared to show Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s hand drawing the poverty line in the Islamic Republic, amid widespread anger over the cratering economy.

The semiofficial Mehr news agency said Iran’s media supervisory body shut down the daily newspaper Kelid after it published a front-page article titled “Millions of Iranians Living under Poverty Line” on Saturday.

Iran's army says intercepts 2 U.S. drones during military drills

TEHRAN, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Iran's army intercepted two U.S. drones and warned them to stay aloof from the zones where it was carrying out the Zolfaqar-1400 military drills, the army's media bureau said in a statement on Tuesday.

The U.S. aircraft, including MQ-9 and RQ-4 drones, intruded into the country's Flight Information Region and Air Defense Identification Zone during the drills, according to the statement.

The drones were approaching to gather intelligence, but they changed their course and flew away after receiving decisive warnings, it said.

94.9 Per Cent Of Adult Population In Malaysia Fully Vaccinated

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (NNN-Bernama) — A total of 22,214,024 individuals or 94.9 per cent of the adult population in the country have completed their COVID-19 vaccination as of Monday, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Based on the MOH’s data on the COVIDNOW portal, 97.5 per cent of the adult population, or 22,819,122 individuals, have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Dutch hospitals urge new measures as COVID-19 cases near record

AMSTERDAM, Nov 9 (Reuters) - A group of hospitals in the southern Dutch province of Limburg on Tuesday called for the government to take new measures to stem rising COVID-19 cases, saying they have no space or staff to handle more coronavirus patients.

Coronavirus infections in the Netherlands, as in other parts of Europe, are approaching all-time highs despite adult vaccination levels around 85%.
