Mexican leader: Richest in world should pay to help poorest

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Mexico’s president warned Tuesday that the world is sliding from “civilization to barbarity” and called for the thousand richest people, the thousand largest private corporations and the 20 major economies to improve life for the 750 million people now existing on less than $2 dollars a day.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador told the U.N. Security Council that this proposal could generate around $1 trillion annually, which should go directly to the world’s poorest people “without any intermediaries, through a card or personalized electronic wallet.”

Europe departs from its ideals in situation on Belarusian-Polish border, Kremlin says

MOSCOW, November 10. /TASS/: A humanitarian catastrophe is looming over the Polish-Belarusian border while Europe departs from its declared ideals in this situation, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The situation is indeed highly tense, a trend [is observed] of increasing tension which can only concern us. A looming humanitarian catastrophe is evident against the background of the unwillingness of our European colleagues to demonstrate the adherence to their European values," the Kremlin official told journalists on Wednesday commenting on the unfolding situation.

Polish PM considers situation on Belarusian border political crisis, not migration one

WARSAW, November 10. /TASS/: Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki considers the crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border not one of migration, but a political one. He reported on Wednesday at the joint press conference with President of the European Council Charles Michel following the discussion of the current situation.

"This is not a migration crisis. This is a political one which is orchestrated to destabilize the situation in the EU," he said blaming the Belarusian and Russian authorities for what is happening.

Zambian president orders evacuation of nationals from Ethiopia

9 Nov 2021; MEMO: President Hakainde Hichilema, on Tuesday, ordered Zambians who live and work in Ethiopia to leave because of civil unrest in the East African nation.

"Fellow Zambians, on my orders, we have today safely evacuated our fellow citizens from Ethiopia. We thank the Ethiopian authorities for their cooperation and everyone involved in this operation and we pray that the conflict in Ethiopia is resolved as soon as possible," Hichilema's office said in a statement.

Czechs, Slovaks report surge in COVID-19 cases, hospitals stretched

PRAGUE, Nov 10 (Reuters) - The Czech Republicand Slovakia reported fresh surges in coronavirus infections on Wednesday and again had to start limiting non-urgent hospital care to cater for admissions of COVID-19 patients.

Slovakia, a country of 5.5 million, reported a record high 7,055 new cases for Tuesday, and the Czech Republic, twice the size, reported 14,539 cases, not far from an all-time peak seen in January.

Israel MK Abbas refuses to meet the Palestinian president

10 Nov 2021; MEMO: Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas has been trying for months to meet Israeli-Arab MK Mansour Abbas, Israeli media revealed yesterday.

According to Israel's Channel 12 news, Mansour Abbas, who has joined Israel's government coalition, said that there was no time for "controversy" and has refused to meet with the Palestinian president.

Somali army kills 9 al-Shabab militants in southern region

MOGADISHU, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Somali National Army (SNA) on Wednesday killed nine al-Shabab terrorists during the ongoing security operation in Awdhigle district in the southern part of the country.

The SNA commanders said the troops which have intensified the onslaught against the extremist group destroyed the militants' key hideout at Shamgare and Raqeyle villages in the Lower Shabelle region.

According to SNA Radio, the SNA troops later took over Kabis jungle, al-Shabab's biggest hideout in the Gedo region during the security operation in the region.

Delhi's air quality 'severe' again

New Delhi, Nov 9 (PTI) Delhi's air quality slipped to the "severe" category again on Tuesday with stubble burning accounting for 27 per cent of its PM2.5 pollution, authorities said.

Low temperature -- Delhi recorded a minimum of 13.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the season's lowest so far -- allowed accumulation of pollutants, said Mahesh Palawat, vice president (meteorology and climate change), Skymet Weather.

The minimum temperature is expected to dip to 10 degrees by November 15, the India Meteorological Department said.

Sudan agrees to open two more camps for refugees fleeing Ethiopia's Tigray region

9 Nov 2021; MEMO: Sudanese authorities approved the opening of two additional camps in Qadarif state on Tuesday to house fleeing refugees from the war in the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia.

The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) quoted the head of the Refugee Housing Emergency Service in Qadarif, Al-Fateh Al-Muqaddam, as saying "the opening of the two camps comes as part of the refugee commission after the recent repercussions in Ethiopia."

Thai court rules students' royal reform call sought to overthrow monarchy

BANGKOK, Nov 10 (Reuters) - A Thai court ruled on Wednesday that three anti-government activists who had called for reform of the country's powerful monarchy had violated the constitution by making what it called a veiled attempt to overthrow the institution.

The Constitutional Court, ruling in a case brought by a royalist lawyer, said a controversial 10-point call for reforms of the institution by three student protest leaders in August last year was designed to topple the monarchy.

Satellite signals suggest Vietnam ship seized by Iran freed

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Satellite tracking data and other signals on Wednesday suggested a Vietnamese oil tanker earlier seized by Iran had been freed by the Islamic Republic, ending the latest maritime confrontation involving Tehran amid stalled negotiations over its tattered nuclear deal with world powers.
