India: No UPA for last 10 years; dynamics have changed: TMC

New Delhi, Dec 2 (PTI) Defending party chief Mamata Banerjee's statement that there is "no UPA", TMC MP Derek O'Brien on Thursday said there has been no United Progressive Alliance for the last 10 years.

Banerjee met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar in Mumbai on Wednesday and called for fighting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unitedly, while taking a veiled swipe at the Congress leadership.

India: Our policy on Taiwan clear, consistent: MEA

New Delhi, Dec 2 (PTI) India on Thursday said its policy on Taiwan is clear and consistent and it is focused on promoting interactions in areas of trade, investment and tourism among others.

India's position on Taiwan was articulated by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan while replying to a question in Rajya Sabha.

"Government of India's policy on Taiwan is clear and consistent," he said in a written reply.

India: Centre must fulfil pending demands of farmers: SKM

New Delhi, Dec 2 (PTI) The Samyukta Kisan Morcha on Thursday said that the stand-off between farmers and the government continues as the Centre is forcing them to stay put at protest sites by not giving any formal communication with regard to their pending demands, an official statement said.

Pakistan issues visas to Indian pilgrims

New Delhi, Dec 1 (PTI) The Pakistan High Commission said on Wednesday that it has issued 136 visas to Indian pilgrims for visiting various religious sites in Pakistan.

It said the group of Indian pilgrims is visiting Pakistan to participate in the 313th birth anniversary celebrations of Shiv Avtari Satguru Sant Shadaram Sahib, at Shadani Darbar Hayat Pitafi in Sindh from December 4 to 15.

Indian Govt notifies Farm Laws Repeal Act

New Delhi, Dec 1 (PTI) The Centre on Wednesday notified a legislation to repeal the three agriculture laws against which thousands of farmers have been protesting for over a year now.

The Farm Laws Repeal Act, 2021 received the assent of the President of India on November 30, said a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

This law was passed by Parliament on November 29 without debate amid protests by Opposition MPs.

India: 5,579 farmers committed suicide in 2020

New Delhi, Nov 30 (PTI) The number of farmers who committed suicide dropped to 5,579 in 2020 as compared to 5,957 in the previous year, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed Parliament on Tuesday, citing the latest NCRB report.

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), which functions under Ministry of Home Affairs, has not given "separate reasons" for farmers' suicide in its 2020 report, the minister said in his written reply to the Lok Sabha.

India's GDP growth at 8.4 pc in July-Sept

New Delhi, Nov 30 (PTI) India's economic growth slowed to 8.4 per cent in the second quarter of 2021-22, mainly due to waning low base effect, official data showed on Tuesday.

The GDP growth in April-June quarter this fiscal stood at 20.1 per cent. The Indian economy had contracted by 24.4 per cent in April-June last year.

The gross domestic product (GDP) had contracted by 7.4 per cent in the corresponding July-September quarter of 2020-21, according to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).

India: AAP has most honest, patriotic leaders: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said his party has "the most honest, dedicated and patriotic leaders".

His remarks came after Aam Aadmi Party MLA Raghav Chadha won the "Stylish Politician of the Year" award at the second season of the India Fashion Awards.

"We have the most honest, most dedicated and most patriotic leaders in our party. Now, we have the most stylish too! Congrats @raghav_chadha," Kejriwal tweeted.

India: No proposal to recognise Bitcoin as currency: FM

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) The government has no proposal to recognise Bitcoin as a currency in the country, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told the Lok Sabha on Monday.

She also informed the House that the government does not collect data on Bitcoin transactions.

Replying to a question on whether the government has any proposal to recognise Bitcoin as a currency in the country, the finance minister said, "No, sir".
