China builds village in Arunachal Pradesh, Rahul Gandhi attacks PM Modi

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of national security after reports that China has built a village in Arunachal Pradesh.

"Remember his promise - Will not let the country bow," Gandhi said on Twitter as he posted a link of a news report about the alleged "Chinese village".

Congress leader Randeep Surjewala also slammed the prime minister on the matter.

"Modiji where is that 56-inch chest," he asked on Twitter.

India, Japan ink pact on movement of skilled workers

New Delhi, Jan 18 (PTI) An agreement to promote the movement of skilled Indian workers to Japan in a total of 14 sectors was signed between the two countries on Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

The areas under which skilled Indian workers would be eligible to seek employment in Japan include construction, shipbuilding and ship-related industry, automobile maintenance, nursing, aviation, agriculture, fisheries and food services industry among others, it said.

New Delhi, Jan 18 (PTI) The tenth round of talks between the government and representatives of protesting farmers on controversial new farm laws was on Monday pushed back by a day to January 20, with the Centre saying both sides want to resolve the stalemate at the earliest but it was getting delayed due to involvement of people of other ideologies.

India: Zero visibility in parts of Delhi due to very dense fog

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) Very dense fog blanketed parts of Delhi on Tuesday, reducing visibility to zero metres and affecting traffic movement, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The minimum temperature dropped to 6.9 degrees Celsius as northwesterly winds from the snow-clad western Himalayas have started blowing towards the plains, an IMD official said.

On Monday, Delhi's minimum temperature stood at 9 degrees Celsius, two notches more than normal, due to party cloudy weather and easterly winds which are not as cold as northwesterly winds.

India: Global TOTAL acquires 20 pc stake in Adani Green Energy

New Delhi, Jan 18 (PTI) Adani Group on Monday said global energy major TOTAL has acquired a 20 per cent equity stake in Adani Green Energy Ltd.

The purchase of 20 per cent minority interest by TOTAL was done "via the acquisition of shares held by the Adani Promoter Group in Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL)," a statement by Adani Group said.

India: Use of regional languages in Rajya Sabha rises, Sanskrit 5th widely used

New Delhi, Jan 16 (PTI) The use of regional languages in the proceedings of Rajya Sabha has increased manifold times during 2018-2020 with Sanskrit emerging as the fifth widely used among the 22 scheduled languages after Hindi, Telugu, Urdu and Tamil.

Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has been regularly urging the members of the House on use of regional languages during the proceedings.
