US withdrawal from Afghanistan over 90% complete — Pentagon

WASHINGTON, July 6. /TASS/: The US withdrawal from Afghanistan is over 90% complete, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement Tuesday.

"The withdrawal process continues; US Central Command estimates that we have completed more than 90% of the entire withdrawal process," the statement says.

Specific figures are not provided in order over concerns of personnel safety, the command notes. 

USA: Water leak causes delays or cancellations of hundreds of flights at JFK airport

NEW YORK, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Water leak at one of the control towers at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Saturday evening caused the delays or cancellations of hundreds of flights, according to media reports on Sunday.

Nearly 300 flights were reportedly delayed or diverted.

The disruption occurred on the busiest Independence Day weekend for travel since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some 3.7 million Americans would reportedly fly this weekend, a 164 percent increase from last year.

USA: Explosives bring down rest of South Florida collapsed condo

SURFSIDE, Fla. (AP) — Demolition crews set off explosives late Sunday that brought down the damaged remaining portion of a collapsed South Florida condo building, a key step to resuming the search for victims as rescuers seek access to new areas of the rubble.

A loud rat-at-tat of explosions echoed from the structure just before 10:30 p.m. Then the building began to fall, one floor after another, cascading into an explosion of dust. Plumes billowed into the air, as crowds watched the scene from afar.

World in dangerous period, warns WHO, as coronavirus’ Delta variant evolves

UNITED NATIONS, Jul 03 (APP): The world is in a very “dangerous period” of the coronavirus pandemic compounded by more transmissible variants like Delta — first detected in India — which is continuing to evolve and mutate, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has warned.

“In countries with low COVID-19 vaccination coverage, terrible scenes of hospitals overflowing are again becoming the norm,” Tedros told his bi-weekly press briefing in Geneva.”But no country is out of the woods yet”, he added.

US Pres Biden orders probe after massive ransomware attack potentially hit 1,000 businesses

CENTRAL LAKE (Michigan), July 4 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A ransomware attack on a US IT company potentially targeted 1,000 businesses, researchers said, with one of Sweden’s biggest supermarket chains revealing it had to temporarily close around 800 stores after losing access to its checkouts.

Kaseya said Friday evening it had limited the attack to “a very small percentage of our customers” who use its signature VSA software – “currently estimated at fewer than 40 worldwide.”
