UNITED NATIONS, Jul 09 (APP): UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said that the world was running out of time to limit global temperature rise to below two degrees Celsius, saying that it was a matter of life or death for climate vulnerable countries.

Speaking to the first Climate Vulnerable Finance Summit of 48 nations systemically exposed to climate related disasters, the UN chief said they needed reassurance that financial and technical support will be forthcoming.

This Russian text — tabled following the formalization of the draft proposed by Ireland and Norway calling for an extension of one year — suggests a “possible prolongation” later, one of the sources said.

July 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday updated its guidance to help reopen schools in the fall, including recommending masking indoors for everyone who is not fully vaccinated and three feet of distance within classrooms.

The CDC in its latest guidance said all kindergarten through grade 12 schools in the United States should continue to mandate wearing masks indoors by all individuals who are not fully vaccinated.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Severe weather from Tropical Storm Elsa spurred tornado warnings in southern Delaware early Friday as the system moved over the mid-Atlantic states and into the northeastern United States.

It was not immediately clear whether a tornado touched down. The National Hurricane Center said in a 2 a.m. advisory that Elsa has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (80 kph) and was located about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southwest of Atlantic City, New Jersey.
