Turkey's Erdogan: The UN Security Council needs to be reformed

ISTANBUL, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday called for the United Nations Security Council to be reformed, decrying the fact that the United States could veto a ceasefire proposal for Gaza despite huge support from other countries.

"The United Nations Security Council demand for ceasefire is rejected only by U.S. veto. Is this justice?," Erdogan said in a human rights conference in Istanbul.

"The U.N. Security Council needs to be reformed," he added.

ISTANBUL (AP) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan used a speech on human rights Saturday to accuse the West of “barbarism” for its stance on the Israel-Hamas war and what he alleged was its toleration of Islamophobia.

“Israel has carried out atrocities and massacres that will shame the whole of humanity,” Erdogan told a packed hall in Istanbul the day before the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Turkey rejects 'buffer zone' plan for Gaza, Erdogan says

ANKARA, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Turkey rejects plans to establish a post-war buffer zone in Gaza because it would be disrespectful to Palestinians, President Tayyip Erdogan was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

Reuters reported last week that Israel had conveyed plans for the buffer zone to several Arab states and Turkey.

Speaking to reporters on a flight from Doha, Erdogan said Gaza's governance and future after the war would be decided by Palestinians alone.

Türkiye's central bank reserves record historic high

ANKARA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The total reserves of the Turkish central bank reached a historic high of 136.49 billion U.S. dollars as of the end of last week, according to the data announced by the bank on Thursday.

Among the reserves, 90.99 billion dollars were foreign currency reserves while 45.49 billion were gold reserves.

Since May, the bank's total gross reserves surged 38.35 billion dollars, or 38.6 percent. There has been an upward momentum in the bank's reserves since June.

"Since October 7, our brothers and sisters in Gaza have been subjected to the most treacherous attacks in human history. Their mosques have been bombed. Their schools have been reduced to rubble. The refugee camps where they have sought shelter have been deliberately targeted. Netanyahu has went down in history as the butcher of Gaza," the Turkish president said in a speech to parliament.
