Qatar: 'We will normalise relations with Israel after it commits to Arab Peace Initiative'

09 Jan 2021; MEMO: Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has confirmed that his country will normalise its relations with Israel if it commits to the Arab Peace Initiative, RT reported on Thursday.

The minister stressed, according to RT Arabic, that Qatar's stance regarding the normalisation of ties with Israel is clear.

UAE FM says travel, trade with Qatar to resume within week

Facebook deletes IUMS page after union issues fatwa to boycott Israel

07 Jan 2021; MEMO: The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has condemned the removal of its page by Facebook on Tuesday and has launched a new one, calling on "all Muslims and fair people in the world" to support the organisation.

In a statement, the IUMS attributed the removal of its Facebook page to its support of causes, such as the Palestinian cause.

Qatar finance minister visits Egypt for first time since Gulf blockade

07 Jan 2021; MEMO: Qatari Finance Minister Ali Al-Emadi along with a delegation arrived on Tuesday in the Egyptian capital Cairo for the first time since the start of the Gulf blockade in 2017.

Germany's DPA reported that Al-Emadi was due to attend the inauguration of the luxury St. Regis Hotel – owned by the Qatari Diar. The Nile-side hotel has long stood empty as a result of the blockade.

Qatar reveals initial deal with Gulf states, calls for talks with Iran

24 Dec 2020; MEMO: Qatari Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani reiterated on Wednesday that there is an initial deal for reconciliation among Gulf States, Reuters reported.

Al-Thani, who is also the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, called for de-escalating tension in the Gulf area through talks between the Gulf states and Iran.

Qatar unveils fourth 2022 World Cup stadium

19 Dec 2020; MEMO: Qatar inaugurated the fourth of eight 2022 World Cup venues, the Al Rayyan Stadium, when the country hosted the Amir Cup final between Al-Sadd and Al-Arabi on Friday, Reuters reports.

Al-Sadd, coached by former Barcelona and Spain midfielder Xavi Hernandez, beat Al-Arabi 2-1 to lift their 17th Amir Cup title after Algeria forward Baghdad Bounedjah scored twice.

"It is a wonderful football stadium," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement.

Gulf states to meet for reconciliation with Qatar

07 Dec 2020; MEMO:  Reconciliation between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain was due to take place during the summit of Gulf States to be held in Bahrain this month, Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai reported yesterday.

According to the paper, which reported a diplomatic source, the reasons behind the three-year long dispute are to be discussed through committees which are being formed in an effort to find a solution  that would ensure the crisis is not renewed and to unite Gulf States.

Qatar Signs Deal With China’s Yutong To Manufacture Electric Buses

DOHA, Dec 2 (NNN-QNA) – Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA), signed an agreement with China’s Yutong, one of the world’s leading bus makers, to manufacture electric buses.

According to the deal, the first e-buses will be produced for the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022. Yutong will provide Qatar with 1,002 vehicles for the tournament, including 741 electric vehicles.
