Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council suspends Riyadh agreement talks - Reuters

TASS, August 26: Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) has announced suspension of negotiations on the so-called Riyadh agreement aimed at forming a united government in the country, Reuters reported, citing the council’s statement.

According to the agency, the STC named collapse of the government service system in south Yemen and escalation of military conflict by government forces among the reasons behind this decision.

Yemen: 2 senior Houthi leaders killed

25 Aug 2020; MEMO: Two senior Houthi leaders have been pronounced dead during clashes with the Yemeni army in Al Jawf Governorate near Saudi Arabia, Arabi21 reported yesterday.

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Houthi government, Hussein Al-Izzi, announced their death in a tweet, naming them as Major General Ezzi Salah Dahawa and Major General Ruhollah Zaid Ali Musleh.

Pro-Gov’t Forces Defuse 65 Houthi-Laid Landmines In Yemen’s Hodeidah

ADEN, Aug 22 (NNN-SABA) – Yemen’s pro-government forces, yesterday managed to dismantle a minefield laid previously by the Houthi rebels, in the country’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, a military official said.

“A team of explosives experts received calls from a local resident, about existence of mines on his agricultural farm in Durayhmi district of Hodeidah, and immediately rushed to the site,” the military source said.

“Around 65 mines were successfully dismantled by the experts, who managed to secure the residents in the area,” the source said.

Houthi forces kill Daesh emir in Yemen’s Bayda

21 Aug 2020; MEMO: The Houthi movement yesterday announced that their forces had killed the head of the Yemeni branch of Daesh.

According to a statement released on Al-Masirah TV, the movement claimed to have carried out an ambush operation in the Qifah district in the central province of Al-Baydah which resulted in the death of Daesh emir Abu Al-Walid Al-Adani. They also announced the arrest of another terrorist leader Salem Hassan Al-Saaimi along with 40 others.

Yemeni Military Official, Soldiers Killed In Battle With Houthis In Al-Jawf

SANAA, Aug 18 (NNN-SABA) – A Yemeni senior military official and eight soldiers were killed, in battle with the Houthi rebels, in Yemen’s northeastern province of al-Jawf, a local medical source said.

General Mohammed Ali al-Roqn, commander of the 122 Brigade, along with eight soldiers, were killed in the battle, on Sunday, in al-Jadafir area east of Houthi-held al-Hazm in al-Jawf.

Yemen’s Prime Minister, Maeen Abdulmalik, said in a statement that, “al-Roqn was killed while leading military operations against the Houthi militia in al-Jawf.”

Yemen's UNESCO-listed Old Sanaa houses collapse in heavy rains

SANAA (Reuters) - Houses in Yemen’s UNESCO-listed Old City of Sanaa are collapsing under heavy rains, as months of floods and storms assail a country already reeling from war, food shortages and disease.

The distinctive brown and white mud brick houses of Sanaa’s historic neighbourhoods, which date from before the 11th century, have long been under threat from conflict and neglect.

Muhammad Ali al-Talhi’s house partially collapsed on Friday as heavy rain battered Sanaa, leaving the six women and six children of his family homeless.

Up to 20 killed in Saudi air strike on Yemen’s Jawf province

07 Aug 2020; MEMO: At least 20 people were killed yesterday during Saudi air strikes over the northern Yemeni province of Al-Jawf, according to the pro-Houthi Al-Masirah TV network.

Citing local sources, it was reported that Saudi-led coalition warplanes struck three cars carrying civilians in the Khab Washaaf district. Most of the victims were women and children, according to officials. At least three air raids were carried out on nomadic camps in the area.
