India: Karn police firing anti-CAA protesters: Magisterial probe report by Apr 23

Mangaluru, Mar 20 (PTI) The magisterial inquiry report into the police firing during the December 19 protests against the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be submitted by April 23, Udupi deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha heading the probe has said.

It was earlier scheduled to be submitted by March 23 as per the deadline but the government had agreed to extend it by one month on request, he told reporters here Thursday after a day-long sitting during which evidencewas taken from policemen and the public.

India: 4 test positive in Lucknow, cases rise to 23 in UP

Lucknow, Mar 20 (PTI) Four people tested positive for novel coronavirus in Lucknow, taking the total number of cases in Uttar Pradesh to 23, an official said on Friday.

The four COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the King George's Medical University, a health department official said.

The total number of confirmed cases of the deadly infection in the state is 23 -- eight each in Agra and Lucknow, four in Noida, two in Ghaziabad and another in Lakhimpur Kheri -- so far, according to the official.

India: Delhi HC stays FIR order against VHP leader over hate speech

New Delhi, Mar 20 (PTI) The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed a trial court order directing lodging of FIR against Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Alok Kumar for allegedly giving hate speech during a rally last year.

Justice Yogesh Khanna put on hold till May 12 the trial court order of February 18.

India: JNU asks students to vacate hostels amid corona

New Delhi, Mar 20 (PTI) The Jawaharlal Nehru University has asked it's students to vacate hostels amid the coronavirus pandemic and said mess facilities would only be available for the next 48 hours.

The directive came after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on Thursday said Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal had asked all government departments, autonomous bodies and public sector units to segregate activities and suspend non-essential services.

India: 21-yr-old woman arrested in Bengal for LeT links

Kolkata, Mar 20 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district for her alleged links with terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a senior police officer said on Friday.

The woman, an MA final-year student of a well-known college in the city, has been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and various sections of the IPC related to sedition, he said.
