India: Mumbai local train services to stop from Sunday midnight

Mumbai, Mar 22 (PTI) Mumbai, also knows as the city that never sleeps, finally braces for a virtual lockdown as local train services will stop from Sunday midnight till March 31 in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.

However, BEST bus services will continue in the metropolis to facilitate movement of staff of the essential services, a state government official said.

India: Encounter with Naxal terrorists: Bodies of 17 missing cops found

Raipur, Mar 22 (PTI) Bodies of 17 security personnel, who were missing after an encounter with Naxals in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, were found on Sunday, police said.

"Bodies of 17 security personnel were recovered by a search team and were being evacuated from forests," Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI.

Mumbai, Mar 20 (PTI) A racket involving sending people from Gujarat to United Kingdom on fake passports was busted by Mumbai Crime Branch after a couple was detained at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on February 26, said an official on Friday.

The couple was going to the United Arab Emirates, he said.

India: Holy flag atop Puri's Jagannath temple catches fire

Puri, Mar 20 (PTI) A holy flag atop the Jagannath temple in Odisha's Puri caught fire when a grand lamp was being placed near it, officials said on Friday.

The incident took place when the 'Mahadeepa' or the lamp was being placed atop the 12th-century shrine by the servitors on Thursday night on the occasion of 'Papanashini Ekadashi', temple officials said.

India: Jamia asks students to vacate hostels due to corona

New Delhi, Mar 20 (PTI) Jamia Millia Islamia has directed its students to vacate hostels by Monday in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak but has exempted those from abroad.

All the teaching staff of the various faculties and department have been asked to work from their homes and have been directed to provide reading materials etc. for the assignment of each unit on time, the varsity said.

India: Janta curfew: GoAir suspends all flights for Sunday

New Delhi, Mar 20 (PTI) GoAir on Friday announced that it is voluntarily suspending all flights on March 22 when 'Janta curfew' will be in force.

The move came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for a 'Janta curfew' from 7 am to 9 am on Sunday amid coronavirus pandemic.

India: Singer Kanika Kapoor booked for corona negligence

Lucknow, Mar 20 (PTI) Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor who had attended several gatherings here and tested positive for coronavirus has been booked for negligence and disobedience to the order issued by a public servant, an official said.

The FIR was registered against at Sarojini Nagar police station, said Police Commissioner Surjit Pandey.
