India: State units will work out modalities with rlys, chief secys to pay train fare of migrants: Cong

New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) The Congress on Monday termed historic party president Sonia Gandhi's decision asking PCCs to bear the cost of the train fare of migrant workers returning home, and said its state units will work out the modalities of paying the Railways after coordinating with chief secretaries.

Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal said he has already talked to state Congress chiefs and they are working out the modalities to ensure that every worker and migrant stranded reaches home safely.

India: Police constable held in Rs 7 crore jewellery theft case

Mumbai, May 3 (PTI) A police constable has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the theft of ornaments worth Rs 7 crore from a jewellery shop in suburban Oshiwara here last month, an official said on Sunday.

The constable, Santosh Rathod, is attached to Oshiwara Police Station. Jewellery worth Rs 80 lakh was recovered from him, the official said.

India: UP govt issues order regarding relaxations from Monday

Lucknow, May 3 (PTI) In conformity with the Union Home Ministry guidelines, the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday issued orders regarding the relaxations to be given during the third phase of the coronavirus lockdown beginning Monday.

According to an official, the government accepted the definition of the zones as provided by the Centre.

He said everyone in the hotspots has been urged to download the Arogya Setu app.

India: 4 lakh Keralites from abroad register to return to state

Thiruvananthapuram, May 3 (PTI) At least four lakh Keralites from abroad, including over 9,000 pregnant women, have registered in the NORKA website to return to the state once the Centre gives its nod to open the skies after lockdown travel restrictions are eased.

NORKA (Non Resident Keralites Affairs) department said at least 1.5 lakh Keralites from other states have also registered in its website to return after the centre opens inter-state borders.

India: Shops in Chandigarh to open on odd-even basis from May 4

Chandigarh, May 3 (PTI) All neighbourhood shops in Chandigarh will remain open from 10 am to 6 pm on an odd-even basis from Sunday, the union territory administration has said.

However, malls, market complexes and big shops will remain closed.

All shops in internal sector markets will remain open on an odd-even basis -- even numbered shops will open on May 4 and those with odd number on May 5.

India: 12 more BSF jawans test positive for COVID-19 in Tripura

Agartala, May 3 (PTI) Twelve more Border Security Force jawans tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura on Sunday, a day after two BSF jawans were found to have been infected with the deadly virus.

With the 12 new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 16, of which 14 are active as two persons have recovered from coronavirus.

India: 'Communal poster' on social media; Cops register case

Indore, May 3 (PTI) A case was registered on Sunday after a purported poster prohibiting the entry of traders from a minority community in a village in Madhya Pradesh's Indore district had surfaced on social media during the lockdown period, an officer said.

The purported banner bearing the name of Pemalpur village, located 65 kms away from Indore district headquarter, displayed a message that traders from a community were banned from entering the village as per the order of villagers.

India: 13 SSB personnel test positive for COVID-19

New Delhi, May 4 (PTI) As many as 13 personnel of border guarding force Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have tested positive for coronavirus till now, officials said on Monday.

They said while nine infected officials belong to the 25th battalion of the force based in Ghitorni area of the national capital, the rest are from other locations.

India: Newborn girl found abandoned in UP's Shamli district

Muzaffarnagar, May 4 (PTI) A newborn girl was found abandoned in a wooded area in Uttar Pradesh's Bantikheda village on Monday, police said.

The girl was found by villagers and later handed over to police. The baby has been admitted to a government hospital in Shamli district, they said.

Police are trying to trace the baby's family.
