India: 57-year-old Pune police ASI dies of coronavirus

Pune, May 4 (PTI) A 57-year-old assistant sub inspector of Pune police on Monday died of coronavirus infection in a private hospital, officials said.

He had tested positive for the virus in the last week of April and succumbed at around 1pm, Pune Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Shisave said.

A statement from Bharti Hospital where he was admitted said the ASI was suffering from obesity and hypertension and was on ventilator for 12 days.

The Joint CP said so far 12 Pune police personnel have tested positive for the virus.

India: Raj govt to pay migrant workers' train fare: Gehlot

Jaipur, May 4 (PTI) The Rajasthan government on Monday said it will pay the train fare for migrant workers heading home amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot said the state government took the decision following directions from Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

"On the directions of Congress president Sonia Gandhi ji, we have decided that the state government will pay the railways for sending migrant labourers to other states from Rajasthan by special trains," Gehlot tweeted.

India: Migrant workers want to go home, clash with police in Gujarat

Surat, May 4 (PTI) Hundreds of migrant workers seeking to return home clashed with police and pelted stones at them near a village in Gujarat's Surat district on Monday, following which the security personnel lobbed teargas shells and baton-charged the agitated workers, an official said.

Besides, several labourers also came out on a road in Rajkot demanding that they be sent back to their hometowns, while some migrant workers got their heads tonsured in an area of Surat after being unable to go back home.

India: CKP Co-operative Bank's licence cancelled by RBI; depositors to get up to Rs 5 lakh

3 May 2020; MEMO:  Reserve Bank of India suspended operations of CKP Co-operative Bank and cancelled its licence saying that that the financial position of the bank is highly adverse and unsustainable.

"The affairs of the bank were and are being conducted in a manner detrimental to the public interest and interest of the depositors and that the general character of the management of the bank is prejudicial to the interest of depositors as also public interest," RBI said.

India: Colonel, Major among five security personnel killed in clash with Kasmiri separatists in Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, May 03 (UMM): An Army Colonel, a Major, three security personnel and two Kasmiri separatists were killed in an encounter at a village in Handwara in north Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.

Army officers Col Ashutosh Sharma and Major Anuj, and Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector Shakeel Qazi were among the deceased, they said.

India: Jet fuel price cut 23%, petrol rates remain same

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) Jet fuel (ATF) prices have been slashed by a steep 23 per cent in line with a slump in international oil prices and it now costs about one-third of petrol and diesel whose rates continue to be frozen for the 50th day on Sunday.

Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) price has been cut by Rs 6,812.62 per kilolitre, or 23.2 per cent, to Rs 22,544.75 per kl in the national capital, according to a price notification by state-owned oil marketing companies.

India: Daily wage man kills daughter; claims financial troubles as reason

Sangareddy (Telangana), May 2 (PTI) A daily wage labourer allegedly killed his four-year-old daughter and claimed he killed her due to financial problems, police said on Saturday.

The 35-year-old man was father of two daughters and a son, police said. on Saturday.

India: Woman Naxal terrorist with Rs 16 reward killed in Maha

Gadchiroli, May 2 (PTI) A woman Naxal with Rs 16 lakh reward on her head and 144 serious offences against her name was gunned down in an encounter in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district on Saturday, police said.

The encounter took place in Sinbhatti jungle in the district's Pendhra division in the afternoon, an official said.

India: Shops to open from 7 am to 7 pm in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, May 2 (PTI) In a relaxation for city residents, the UT Chandigarh administration on Saturday allowed opening of shops from 7 am to 7 pm with effect from May 4 in non-containment zone areas.

The administration also allowed residents to use their vehicles to come to the markets without passes, an official said.

Besides, the city administration has also decided to lift curfew on May 3 midnight but impose lockdown till May 17.
