India: Fine for not wearing mask raised to Rs 500 in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Jul 28 (PTI) The Gujarat government has increased the fine for not wearing face mask and spitting in public places in the state to Rs 500 from Rs 200 announced earlier.

The decision was taken by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday, the government said in a release.

Except for some parts of the state like the municipal limits of Ahmedabad and Surat, the government had earlier fixed Rs 200 as fine for not wearing face mask. This will be increased to Rs 500 starting August 1, the release said.

India: Former Karnataka minister passes away due to coronavirus

Bengaluru, Jul 28 (PTI) Former Karnataka Minister Raja Madangopal Naik has died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Kalaburagi, a health department official said on Tuesday.

He was 69 and is survived by his wife and two sons.

"He was admitted to the ESIC hospital in Kalaburgi about a week ago and passed away on Monday," the official told PTI.

Naik, who had stints in Congress, BJP and the JD(S), was a minister in the Congress government headed by M Veerappa Moily.

India: Raj Cabinet sticks to its demand for holding state assembly session

Jaipur, Jul 28 (PTI) The Rajasthan Cabinet on Tuesday discussed the points raised by Governor Kalraj Mishra for calling a state assembly session and said it is sticking to its demand for holding the session from July 31.

Transport Minister Pratap Singh said that a discussion was held for the reply to be sent regarding the three points raised by the governor.

"The Cabinet wants the assembly session from July 31. The proposal is being sent to the governor," he told reporters.

India: 'Pervert' security guard held for molesting women

Indore, Jul 26 (PTI) A 29-year-old security guard has been arrested here in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly molesting women by entering hostels and houses, police said on Sunday.

The accused, Srikant Chaturvedi, seems to be a pervert who has been allegedly involved in many such incidents occurred in Vijay Nagar area in the last 15 days, a police officer said.

India: People no longer trust BJP govt in UP: Akhilesh

Lucknow, Jul 26 (PTI) The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, as far as policy, intention and leadership are concerned, is "crippled" and the people no longer trust it, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged on Sunday.

In a statement issued here, he said the willpower, which should be in a government, to discharge its responsibility, "cannot be seen in the BJP".

India: Shiv Sena leader booked for extortion

Nagpur, Jul 26 (PTI) A case of illegally occupying a flat and demanding Rs 30 lakh in extortion from a businessman was registered on Sunday against Shiv Sena's suspended Nagpur unit president Mangesh Kadao, police said.

An official said the victim had taken loan from the accused in August 2010 and returned part of it.

Kadao and his accomplices allegedly took possession of the victim's flat located on Central Bazaar Road, and also took his signatures on a blank stamp paper, he said.

India: Racket busted for duping 500 people to sending them to Gulf countries

Ghaziabad, July 26 (PTI) Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a 'Kabootar Baazi' racket involved in allegedly duping 500 people on the pretext of sending them to Gulf countries for employment and arrested two people, officials said.

During routine checking on Saturday night, Indirapuram DSP Anshu Jain intercepted a car and found 10 fake passports in the vehicle.

India: CAF jawan killed in Naxal terrorists' firing in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jul 27 (PTI) A Chhattisgarh Armed Force jawan was killed after Naxals opened fire at security personnel guarding a police camp in a forest in Chhattisgarhs Narayanpur district on Monday, a senior official said.

The incident took place at around 8.30 am when the victim was on security duty at his units Kademeta camp under Chhote Dongar police station limits, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI.

Indian Govt bans 47 more Chinese apps: Source

New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The government has banned 47 more Chinese apps, taking the total number of mobile applications banned for being prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity and defence of the country, to 106, according to a source.

The source privy to the development said that the 47 additional Chinese apps that have been banned now were clones and variants of the apps which were blocked earlier.
