India: Union MoS Railways BJP MP Suresh Angadi dies of coronavirus

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) Minister of State for Railways and Karnataka BJP MP Suresh Angadi passed away on Wednesday, days after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The 65-year-old passed away at around 8 pm at the AIIMS trauma centre which has been converted into a dedicated COVID-19 facility, sources at the hospital said.

India: Court extends freelance journalist Rajeev Sharma's custody in espionage case

New Delhi, Sep 21 (PTI) A Delhi court Monday extended by seven days the custodial interrogation of freelance journalist Rajeev Sharma, arrested in an espionage case under the Official Secrets Act.

Police said Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Pawan Singh Rajawat also extended the custody of two of his associates -- a Chinese woman and a Nepalese man by seven days.

The accused were produced before the court on expiry of their earlier police custody and the agency sought their further remand.

India: Sharad Pawar gets Income Tax notice over poll affidavits

Mumbai, Sep 22 (PTI) NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said the Income Tax department has served him a notice in connection with his poll affidavits submitted to the Election Commission.

Talking to reporters here, Pawar said the Income Tax department has sought his "clarification and explanation" on some poll affidavits furnished by him.

India: Gold, silver tumble on weak global trend

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) Gold prices tumbled Rs 672 to Rs 51,328 per 10 gram in the national capital on Tuesday on a weak global trend, according to HDFC Securities.

The yellow metal had closed at Rs 52,000 per 10 gram in the previous trading session.

Silver also witnessed massive selloff with prices tanking Rs 5,781 to Rs 61,606 per kilogram from Rs 67,387 per kilogram in the previous trade.

Israel, India sign MoU to collaborate in tech innovation

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) An agreement was signed on Tuesday between Israel's Start-Up Nation Central and India's International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate) to initiate a bilateral program to accelerate innovation and technology cooperation.

In a statement, the Israeli embassy said the aim of this program is to bring together Israeli and Indian entrepreneurs and start-ups to collaborate on innovative projects.

The MoU was signed by Eugene Kandel, CEO of Start-Up Nation Central from Jerusalem and Anupam Jalote, CEO of iCreate from Ahmedabad.

India: 10 crore in 16 year girl's bank account in UP

Ballia (UP), Sep 22 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district was in for a shock when she came to know that nearly Rs 10 crore was deposited in her bank account.

According to a complaint, a person named Neelesh Kumar from Kanpur Dehat district had called Saroj two years ago and asked her to send Aadhaar card and photograph in the name of getting funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. She did so.
