India: Mayawati attacks UP govt over crimes against women

Lucknow, Sep 25 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati on Friday questioned the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that there has been no check on atrocities and crimes against Dalits and women despite several announcements and directives by the government.

"Despite endless announcements and directions of the Uttar Pradesh government , incidents of injustice, atrocities against Dalits and women, cases of rape and murder etc. have not stopped. So, it is natural that questions are raised on the intention of the government," she tweeted.

India: Farmers protest at Noida-Delhi border in UP

Noida (UP), Sep 25 (PTI) Scores of farmers gathered on a key road in Noida in Uttar Pradesh in a protest demonstration on Friday, prompting deployment of police in riot gear that kept them from proceeding towards Delhi.

Around 150-200 farmers were at the Noida Gate in Sector 14A near Chilla, at the UP-Delhi border, where they were stopped by the Gautam Buddh Nagar police around 12 noon, officials said.

India: Honour killing in Telangana, man murdered by in-laws

Hyderabad, Sep 25 (PTI) In a suspected case of honour killing, a 28-year old man was allegedly abducted and murdered for marrying a woman belonging to a different caste, police said on Friday.

Nine people suspected to be involved in the case are in custody.

According to police, relatives of Avanthi Reddy 'forcibly' took her and her husband Hemanth, who got married against the wishes of her family about three months ago, on Thursday in a car.

India: Priest, his brother booked for theft in temple

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 25 (PTI) A priest and his brother were booked for allegedly stealing Rs 1.25 lakh cash and other valuables from a temple in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Friday.

The priest, Sompal, of the Yogmaya temple at Miranpur town in the district and his brother Rampal are absconding after the incident that took place on Wednesday evening, they said.

The incharge of the temple managing committee, Anurag Sharma, lodged a complaint against the duo on Thursday.

India: Maharashtra minister targets ex-Bihar DGP Pandey

Mumbai, Sep 25 (PTI) Former Bihar police chief Gupteshwar Pandey would speak like some BJP leader in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case and that suspicion has proved to be true, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has said.

Pandey has been in line of fire of non-BJP parties in Maharashtra after he sought a CBI probe in Rajput's death and then opted for voluntary retirement amid speculation of his electoral foray in Bihar where assembly polls will be held in October-November.

Pune, Sep 25 (PTI) Till March, Navnath Gore was a lecturer in a college in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, but the COVID-19-induced lockdown took away his contract job and reduced him to a farm labourer.

Gore (32), a resident of Nigdi, a small village in Jat tehsil of Sangli district, received the Sahitya Akademi's Yuva Puraskar for young writers in 2018, but that is hardly a consolation for a man who has fallen on hard times due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

India: Security forces defuse 4 landmines planted by Naxal terrorists

Medininagar (Jharkhand), Sep 25 (PTI) Security forces on Friday defused four landmines allegedly planted by Naxalites on a road in Jharkhand's Palamu district, police said.

The Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), weighing 12- 15 kg each, were laid on a road near Mansuria village in Manatu police station area, Superintendent of Police, Sanjeev Kumar, said.

"The landmines were laid to inflict casualties on the security forces. Investigation is on to find out which Naxalite outfit was behind it," the officer told PTI.

India: Running without license two hospitals sealed

Kanpur: Following a raid on two hospitals here on Wednesday, the CMO has taken strict action of sealing procedures. The manager of one hospital has been arrested while the process of action on another hospital was also undertaken.

Both the hospitals had been running without a proper license. One hospital was based in Panki while another was situated at Kalyanpur. According to the news reports, the hospitals were sealed and the manager of one hospital was arrested.
