India: 6-year-old girl raped by tutor in UP's Pilibhit

Pilibhit (UP), Oct 26 (PTI) A 6-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her tutor in a village here on Monday, following which the man was arrested, police said.

The accused has been identified as Dharmendra Maurya. The incident took place under Jahanabad police station area, they said.

The girl, a class II student, had gone for her tuition class along with a friend. Her tutor allegedly raped her, Superintendent of Police Jai Prakash said.

India: BJP condemns burning of PM's effigies on Dussehra

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (PTI) BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Monday condemned the burning of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effigies on the occasion of Dussehra in Punjab.

Chugh described it as unfortunate and said such incidents have hurt sentiments of millions of people in the country.

He alleged that effigies of the PM were set on fire at the behest of the Congress-led government in the state and said it showed how the ruling party could stoop to such a level just for the sake of petty politics .

It cannot be tolerated, he said.

India: 15-year-old raped in Punjab's Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur, Oct 26 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl working at a brick kiln in Naru Nangal here was allegedly raped by a youth, police said on Monday.

The incident took place at Manan village on October 24.

The accused, identified as Arun Kumar, has been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, said Sadar police station Sub-Inspector Neelam Kumari.

The victim lived at labour quarters. The accused lived nearby.

India: Shoe hurled at Gujarat Deputy CM

Ahmedabad, Oct 26 (PTI) An unidentified person on Monday hurled a shoe in the direction of Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel when he was addressing the media after a poll rally in Vadodara district.

However, the footwear missed the target and landed just a few inches away from Patel.

While the police started an investigation into the incident, the ruling BJP saw Congress's hand in the episode, a charge rejected by the opposition party.

Indian Govt to bring new law to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi, Oct 27 (PTI) With Delhi continuing to grapple with increasing levels of pollution, the Centre has decided to soon bring in a new legislation to curb air pollution in the city and NCR, a top official from the Ministry of Environment said.

The new law will be only for Delhi and NCR. It will come out soon. I cannot comment on what penalties it will entail. It is a new law to curb pollution in Delhi NCR region only. Air Act is for the nation and it will be as it is, Environment Secretary, R P Gupta, told PTI.

India: Police constable kills himself with service revolver in UP

Sambhal (UP) Oct 27 (PTI) A police constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver in the residential area of Hayat Nagar Police Station on Tuesday.

Ankit Yadav (26), who was posted at the Hayat Nagar Police Chowki, hailed from Bijnor district and became a constable in 2016.

Senior officials have reached the spot along with the forensic team and investigations have started, Superintendent of Police Yamuna Prasad said.

No suicide note was recovered, he added.

Delhi's air quality 'very poor'

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) The national capital's air quality was recorded in the 'very poor' category on Monday morning and the share of stubble burning in the city's PM2.5 pollution is likely to increase, according to a central government agency.

The Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitor, SAFAR, said the wind direction and the wind speed is favourable for the transport of the pollutants from farm fires in Haryana, Punjab, and other neighbouring regions to Delhi.

India: UP man cuts off his tongue, offers to God

Banda (UP), Oct 25 (PTI) A 22-year-old man chopped off his tongue at a temple at Bhati village in Baberu area here, police said on Sunday.

Atma Ram (22) reached the temple on Saturday. He cut off his tongue and offered it to God," Jai Shyam Shukla, SHO, Baberu said.

Later, police reached the spot and sent the man to a hospital. His condition is stated to be stable, he said.
