India: AAP only party to challenge BJP in the country: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Feb 25 (PTI) Citing his party's recent success in the Surat municipal polls, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said the AAP is the only party that is challenging the BJP in the country.

Participating in roadshows in Seelampur, Kondli and Trilokpuri ahead of the municipal by-elections on February 28, he said voting for the AAP will usher in development since the party runs the government in Delhi.

India: Vehicle with explosives found near Mukesh Ambani's house

Mumbai, Feb 25 (PTI) A vehicle with gelatin sticks, an explosive material, and an apparently fake number plate was found parked near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's house in south Mumbai on Thursday evening, police said.

The registration number on the vehicle's number plate was the same as that of an SUV in Ambani's security detail, a police official said.

India: Uttar Pradesh CM meets Australian high commissioner

Lucknow, Feb 25 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Australia's High Commissioner to India Barry O'Farrell AO on Thursday and apprised him about the significant work being done in the state.

Adityanath told the high commissioner that in the UP Investors Summit organised in 2018, investment proposals worth Rs 4.68 lakh crore were received.

India: Online & offline exams stay for students this academic year

Kanpur: It is for the first time both the online and the offline examinations are going to be held this academic year.

The students up to class VI are sure to appear through online examinations while the students from Class VII onwards will be appearing at their final exams at schools.

The junior students are appearing relaxed while the senior students are somewhat confused and worried due to the offline method. They are burning the midnight oil to do better in the subjects.

India: 17-yr-old girl drugged, raped by five youths in Haryana

Kurukshetra, Feb 25 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl, a class 12 student, was allegedly drugged and raped by five youths, including the cousin of one of her friends, near her village in Kurukshetra district, police said on Thursday.

Three of the accused have been nabbed by the police while efforts are on to arrest two others, an official said.

Among the three arrested, two are 18 years old while the third one is a juvenile, who was sent to an observation home.

India: Delhi court sends climate activist Disha Ravi to one-day police custody

New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) A Delhi court on Monday sent 21-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi, arrested in connection with allegedly being involved in sharing a "toolkit" on social media related to the farmers' protest, to one-day police custody (PC) to be confronted with co-accused in the case.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Pankaj Sharma sent Ravi for custodial interrogation after police said she was required to be confronted with co-accused in the case which has transnational ramification.

India: Govt has no business to be in business: Modi

New Delhi, Feb 24 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the government has no business to be in business and his administration is committed to privatising all PSUs barring the bare minimum in four strategic sectors.

"It is government's duty to support enterprises and businesses. But it is not essential that it should own and run enterprises," he said.

India: 11-year-old girl raped in UP's Banda

Banda (UP), Feb 24 (PTI) An 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her uncle in a village here, following which the accused was arrested, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Monday night when Shubham reached the girl's house and later took her to a secluded place and raped her, SHO Jaishyam Shukla said.

When the minor's parents woke up on Tuesday morning, they searched for the girl, who was found in Shubham's house, he said.

An FIR into the matter was registered and the accused was arrested, police added.

India: Naxal terror camp destroyed in Maha

Gadchiroli, Feb 24 (PTI) A Naxal camp was destroyed and an attempt to trigger a blast was foiled by police in eastern Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, an official release said on Wednesday.

On a tip-off, a police team conducted a combing operation in the Kokoti jungle on Tuesday morning and came across a Naxal camp, the release said.

India: UP Assembly passes bill against religious conversion

Lucknow, Feb 24 (PTI) Amid protests by the Opposition, the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Wednesday passed by voice vote a bill aimed at curbing religious conversions by fraudulent or any other undue means, including through marriage.

The Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2021 seeks to replace the ordinance promulgated in November last year that provides for imprisonment up to 10 years and a maximum fine of Rs 50,000 for violators.
