India: Adani Ports acquires residual 25 pc stake in Krishnapatnam Port for Rs 2,800 cr

New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) on Monday said it has acquired 25 per cent stake of Vishwa Samudra Holdings in Krishnapatnam Port for Rs 2,800 crore.

This will result in APSEZ increasing its stake from 75 per cent to 100 per cent in Krishnapatnam Port.

India: Case against 1,011 people on 'Sandal yatra' for breaking Covid rules

Buldhana, Apr 4 (PTI) Police have registered a case against 1,011 people for allegedly violating COVID-19 prevention rules by attending a religious gathering in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, an official said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Friday when the people took out the annual 'Sandal yatra' to the shrine of Sailani Baba here, despite such gatherings not being allowed due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police Ramesh Barkate said.

India: Woman beaten to death by husband in UP

Budaun (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband using a belt in Bilsi area here, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday, they said.

Superintendent of Police (rural) Siddhartha Verma said Rajesh killed his wife Premlata over domestic dispute.

The accused has been arrested, police said.

According to a complaint filed by the deceased's brother, the accused used to often beat his sister.

India: Youth held for rape bid in UP

Shahjahanpur (UP), Apr 4 (PTI) Police arrested a youth for allegedly attempting to rape a three-year-old girl while she was playing outside her house at a village here on Sunday, an official said.

Jalalabad Circle Officer Massa Singh said the accused lured her by showing a Rs 10 note and took her to a deserted place.

The accused tried to rape the girl but she raised a cry. Family members of the girl reached the spot on hearing her cries and the accused fled.

India: Rahul Gandhi rides auto in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 4 (PTI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday took an autorickshaw ride at two places in Kerala, on the last day of campaign for the April 6 Assembly polls, to highlight the rising fuel prices under the BJP-NDA rule.

Gandhi, who addressed a campaign meeting at Nemom, here in the evening, took an autorickshawto the venue, catching everyone by surprise.

K Muraleedharan, MP, is the Congress-led UDF candidate at Nemom, the lone seat won by the BJP in the 2016 assembly polls.

India: An all-time high 103,558 corona cases in a day

New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) India recorded an all-time high of 103,558 coronavirus infections in a day pushing the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 12,589,067, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday.

The single-day rise in cases surpassed the earlier peak of 97,894 infections reported on September 17, last year, making it the highest since the pandemic began in India, while the death toll increased to 165,101 with 478 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

India: Govt determined to end Naxal menace: Amit Shah

Raipur/ New Delhi, Apr 5 (PTI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the government is determined to take the ongoing fight against the unrest created by naxals to its logical conclusion.

The minister, who is on a visit to Chhattisgarh, made the comment after paying tributes to the 22 security personnel who were killed by naxals in the state on Saturday.

"Paid tributes to the brave security personnel who were martyred while fighting the naxalites at Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

India: 171 votes cast in Assam booth that has only 90 voters

Haflong (Assam), Apr 5 (PTI) Total 171 votes were cast in a booth in Assam's Dima Hasao district, even though 90 people were eligible to exercise their franchise, officials said on Monday, revealing a massive irregularity.

The booth is in the Haflong constituency, which went to the polls in the second phase on April 1.

Haflong witnessed 74 per cent polling.
