India: CM's Kanpur visit may take place tomorrow

Kanpur :Taking cognisance of rising Zika virus cases in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to visit here on November 10.

As many as 89 people tested positive for the Zika virus here. Out of the 89 infected, 55 are men and 34 are women. While, 23 are those having age below 21 years.

Yogi Adityanath had directed officials to run the special communicable diseases control campaign and the 'Dastak' campaign in a proactive manner.

Cleanliness, sanitisation, fogging and anti-larval spraying have been done to control the Zika virus.

Indian Paramilitary Trooper Kills Four Colleagues, Wounds Three Others

NEW DELHI, Nov 8 (NNN-PTI) – A paramilitary trooper, belonging to India’s Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), today killed four of his colleagues and wounded three others, inside a stationed camp, in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, officials said.

The incident happened at about 3:25 a.m. (local time) today, at a CRPF camp in Lingampalli village of Sukma district, about 410 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh.

India: Maoist leader Murukeshan arrested, handed over to NIA

Kannur, Nov 7 (PTI) Maoist leader Murukeshan, wanted in a case related to weapons training at Edakkara in Kerala in 2017, was arrested on Sunday and handed over to the National Investigation Agency, police said.

He was apprehended during a raid, based on a tip off, they said.

"He is an accused in the 2017 Edakkara case registered by the NIA . He was known by various aliases, including Gautham and Murukeshan. The NIA will conduct further interrogation and investigation," Kannur city police commissioner R Illango told the media.

India: 60-year-old man held for raping minor girl in UP

Ballia (UP), Nov 7 (PTI) A 60-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl in Rasra police station area here, police said on Sunday.

The man is the victim's distant relative, they said.

Circle officer Shiv Narayan Vais said the incident took place on Saturday when the girl was lured by the accused.

A case was registered following a complaint by the girl's father, he said.

India: Delhi's air quality still in 'severe' category

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI) Delhi's air quality remained in 'severe' category on Sunday because of the large influx of stubble-related pollutants, apparently from much higher effective fire count, authorities said.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the city's air quality index (AQI) stood at 416 (severe) at 8 pm.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted about the air pollution situation and shared data.

"Nov 7 - AQI - 428 (401 to 500 - Severe) PM10 - 450 (Above 430 - Severe) PM2.5 - 309 (Above 250 - Severe)," he tweeted.

India: Prisoner dies, 30 cops injured in clash at UP jail

Farrukhabad (UP), Nov 7 (PTI) A prisoner was allegedly killed and about 30 policemen injured in a clash at a district jail here on Sunday after the death of another man due to dengue.

The prisoners allegedly hurled stones at the policemen and started a fire in the jail after hearing about the death of an inmate, identified as Sandeep Yadav, in Saifai Medical College due to dengue.

The police, however, claimed that another prisoner, Shivam, who died later, was also suffering from an ailment and lost his life while being taken to the hospital on Sunday.

The incident was reported from the Madho Tanda area in the Pilibhit district.

Two boys namely Vikas and Neeraj, 16, were washing their hands at an irrigation canal after working on the farm on Friday.

Vikas suddenly felt a pull on his right leg. It was a crocodile that was dragging him towards the canal.

India: Man kills wife in MP for delay in giving towel after bath

Balaghat, Nov 8 (PTI) A 50-year-old man here in Madhya Pradesh allegedly killed his wife in a fit of rage when she told him to wait for a towel he had asked for after taking bath, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening in Hirapur village under Kirnapur police station limits of Balaghat district, they said.

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) On the fifth anniversary of demonetisation, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday termed it a "disaster" and asked if the step has been successful, why hasn't corruption ended and black money returned to the country.

On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on national television his government's decision to ban all currency notes of higher denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 from midnight on the same day.

India: Rahul Gandhi flays use of UAPA against journalists, activists in Tripura

New Delhi, Nov 8 (PTI) Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Monday said truth cannot be silenced by booking people under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in Tripura.

He also attacked the BJP, saying its favourite cover-up tactic is "shooting the messenger ".

The reaction came after the police invoked UAPA against social media handles including those of journalists and activists over alleged clashes and attacks on mosques in Tripura.
