India: Mamata Banerjee arrives in Goa for two-day visit

Panaji, Dec 12 (PTI) Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday arrived in Goa for a two-day visit to the state, where Assembly elections are due early next year.

This is her second visit to the coastal state in less than two months.

The West Bengal chief minister had last visited Goa, where her party has announced to fight the election on all 40 Assembly seats, in October last week.

India: Uttarakhand CM Dhami's PRO suspended

Dehradun, Dec 12 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's PRO Nandan Singh Bisht has been suspended, days after he had written to the Bageshwar SP asking him to cancel the challans of three vehicles, official sources here said on Sunday.

Bisht has been suspended with immediate effect and a probe ordered into the episode, they said.

India: Teenage girl gang-raped in MP

Guna (MP), Dec 12 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh and police have arrested two persons, including a boy, for the offence, an official said on Sunday.

The incident took place in a village under Aron police station area during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, while the accused were arrested on Saturday, he said.

India: Pak intruder shot dead along IB in Jammu

Jammu, Dec 13 (PTI) A Pakistani woman intruder was shot dead by the BSF along the international border here, an official said on Monday.

Deputy Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) S P S Sandhu said alert troops neutralized the intruder in R S Pura sector on Sunday night.

"The BSF troops noticed suspicious movement and warned the intruder many times not to cross the IB but the intruder kept running towards border fencing aggressively," Sandhu, who is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of BSF, Jammu, said.

India: Kanpur metro to use QR-code based ticketing system initially

Kanpur: Here the Metro will reportedly use a modern QR-code based ticketing system at the initial phase.

With this modern ticketing facility, one can take the commute by scanning QR codes on one's smartphone and showing the same code at the automatic fare collection gate.

Notably, the same QR code will be used for exit upon arriving at the destination as well.

Without a smartphone, a slip with a QR code will be handed to the travellers which will be used to enter and exit the metro station.

India: Sonia slams 'blatantly misogynist' question in CBSE exam

New Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday condemned the inclusion of a "blatantly misogynist" passage in a CBSE Class 10 question paper and demanded an apology from the Modi government.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Gandhi demanded immediate withdrawal of the objectionable question and a review into the "gravest lapse".

India: Man rapes 4-yr-old girl in MP

Rewa, Dec 13 (PTI) A man allegedly raped a four-year-old girl residing in his neighbourhood in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa district, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday evening following which the 22-year-old accused was arrested, they said.

The accused lured the girl to his place on some pretext while she was playing outside her house and allegedly raped her. The girl later came out of his house crying and writhing in pain, police inspector Dilip Dahiya said.

India: BSF's DG calls on West Bengal guv amid jurisdiction tussle

Kolkata, Dec 13 (PTI) Director General of BSF Pankaj Kumar Singh called on West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in New Delhi on Monday.

The governor said that Singh, during the meeting with him, indicated that all efforts are being made to generate seamless coordination with the West Bengal Police.

India: Soldier shoots himself dead in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 13 (PTI) An army soldier allegedly died by suicide in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said.

Havildar S S Arjun allegedly shot himself with his service rifle in the early hours at Drangyari in Chowkibal area, they said.

The jawan succumbed to injuries later, they said.

The reason for the soldier taking such an extreme step was not immediately known.
