Indian Army Air service airlift 16 MT of vegetables to Ladakh

Leh, Feb 8 (PTI) Army has flown 16 metric tonnes of vegetables to Ladakh from Chandigarh on Tuesday to ensure adequate supply during extremely cold climatic conditions, officials said.

The first winter fresh vegetable consignment supply to the public through the cooperative societies was flagged-off today by Secretary, Cooperative, Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar from the cooperative cold storage at Agling.

Kumar said that a total of 16 metric tonnes load has been received today through the Army Air Service (AAS) for both Leh and Kargil districts.

India: PM Modi insulted Telangana: TRS

Hyderabad, Feb 8 (PTI) Alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "insulted Telangana" with his comments in Parliament over the state's formation, the ruling TRS called for protests across the state on Wednesday.

TRS Working President K T Rama Rao asked his party workers to organise protests with black flags and burn effigies of the BJP, a TRS release said.

Rama Rao tweeted alleging that the PM insulted the "decades of spirited struggle and sacrifices of the people of Telangana" with his comments.

India: BJP candidate's convoy attacked in UP's Bhaghpat

Baghpat (UP), Feb 8 (PTI) BJP candidate and MLA Sahendra Ramala's convoy was allegedly attacked in Baghpat's Chhaprauli on Tuesday.

Cow dung was thrown on the convoy, which was also pelted with stones, BJP workers alleged.

BJP leaders said a procession was being taken out in support of the BJP candidate when cow dung and cow dung cakes were thrown at the vehicles.

India: Tribunals in Assam declared 143,466 as foreigners

New Delhi, Feb 9 (PTI) The Foreigners Tribunals (FTs) operating in Assam have declared 143,466 people as foreigners so far and 329 of them were deported to their countries of origin.

Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai also said in the Rajya Sabha that a total of 121,598 have also been declared as Indians by the FTs.

India: Army Chief Gen Naravane speaks to top Saudi commander

New Delhi, Feb 9 (PTI) Chief of Army Staff Gen MM Naravane on Wednesday spoke to Lt Gen Fahd Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutair, the Commander of Royal Saudi Armed Forces of Saudi Arabia, focusing on ways to deepen bilateral military ties.

The Army said various aspects of bilateral defence cooperation figured in the talks.

Owing to swell in the river Gangs the flower farming has been badly affected.

It is about two months since the rise of water level in the river the farmers engaged in farming the flowers are dismayed.

India's Karnataka state to shut schools after 'hijab ban' triggers protests

NEW DELHI, Feb 8 (Reuters) - India's southern Karnataka state has ordered schools and colleges to shut for three days, its chief minister said on Tuesday, after protests erupted in response to some schools refusing entry to students wearing the hijab.

Local media reported last week that several schools in the coastal city of Udupi had denied entry to Muslim girls wearing the hijab citing an education ministry order, prompting protests from parents and students.

India: Girl raped by shopkeeper in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Feb 8 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a shopkeeper who also filmed the act, police said on Tuesday.

Family members of the victim told police that she had gone to buy some goods from a shop where the shopkeeper sexually assaulted her. He also made a video of the act and shared it on social media, the police said

The incident took place on Sunday in the Purkazi area of the district, they added.

India: Official website of Deoband Darul Uloom banned

Saharanpur, Feb 7 (PTI) The official website of the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom at Deoband in the Saharanpur district was banned on Monday.

The ban was imposed by District Magistrate Akhilesh Singh who had been asked by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights to probe into an alleged diktat over the issue of legal rights of adopted children on their parent's property, an official said.
