India: 'The Kashmir Files' shows half truth: Chhattisgarh CM

Raipur, Mar 17 (PTI) Amid the ongoing debate over Hindi film "The Kashmir Files", which is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in 1990s, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has claimed the movie portrays half truth and only shows violence without conveying any message.

Baghel was talking to reporters late Wednesday night after watching the movie at a multiplex here along with his cabinet colleagues and other MLAs.

Section 144 to continue up to April 12 in Kanpur Nagar

Kanpur: In view of the festivals and Board exams the district administration has imposed Section 144 in the district.

According to the information, this will remain effective up to April 12.

Maintaining law and order remain the priority of the administration which aims to complete festivities amid a peaceful atmosphere.

Dharna, rallies and demonstrations will remain restricted till the date. Strict orders have been issued to maintain vigil.

Though the festival of Holi is just round the corner the Board examinations will proceed till the next month.

India: Man found dead on railway track in Kanpur

Kanpur: The dead body of a man was found in a forest area of a railway ground here. The incident took place at Nirala Nagar Railway Ground of the Govind Nagar area.

On getting the information from locals, a team of police reached the spot.

The upper part of the carcass was eaten by animals and the police found a mobile phone in the pocket of the deceased.

The man was identified as Kallu, 32, and was a resident of Jajmau.

He used to work as a labourer here and was living with his wife Soni, two daughters and a son.

India: Highest number of undertrial prisoners in UP, Bihar, MP

New Delhi, Mar 16 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh have the highest number of undertrial prisoners lodged in jails among the states and union territories, Union Minister Nityanand Rai said on Wednesday.

Rai said in Rajya Sabha that while Uttar Pradesh has 80,557 undertrial prisoners as of December 31, 2020, as many as 44,187 undertrial prisoners are in jails in Bihar followed by 31,712 prisoners in Madhya Pradesh.

Indian Oil Corporation buys Russian crude at deep discount

New Delhi, Mar 16 (PTI) Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the nation's top oil firm, has bought as much as 3 million barrels of crude oil that Russia had offered at steep discount to prevailing international rates, sources said.

The purchase, made through a trader, is the first since Russia's February 24 invasion of Ukraine that brought international pressure for isolating Putin administration.

Sources aware of the matter said IOC bought Urals crude for May delivery at a discount of USD 20-25 a barrel to dated Brent.

India: Sahara India agents imprison themselves and its employees

Kanpur: The agents of the Sahara India Family have imprisoned themselves along with the employees and officers of the company here on Tuesday night.

They alleged that the depositors' dues were not paid.

The agents said that until the dues of the depositors are not paid, they will neither go home nor will they allow any employees and officers of Sahara Finance to go home.

One Agent reportedly said, that the depositors have not been able to get the payment even after months and years after the date of payment has elapsed. 

India: The Kashmir Files' made tax free in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Mar 16 (PTI) The Kashmir Files', a movie based on the atrocities against Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, has been made tax free in Uttarakhand.

An order in this regard was issued on Tuesday by Additional Chief Secretary Manisha Panwar.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who had watched the movie on Monday night and praised it, had announced that the Chief Secretary has been asked to make it tax free.

Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Haryana, Goa and Tripura have also made the movie tax free.

India: BJP MLA demands bifurcation of Bengal in assembly

Kolkata, Mar 16 (PTI) A BJP MLA from Kurseong in Darjeeling hills on Wednesday demanded the creation of a new state by separating the North Bengal region from West Bengal.

BJP MLA Bishnu Prasad Sharma, while speaking during the discussion on the Home and Hills Affairs department's budget, claimed that there has been no development in North Bengal and creation of a new state is the only way to resolve the woes of the people.

India: Jajmau posh school remains a spectacle of triviality

Kanpur: A posh school's office remained a spectacle of triviality for a very special reason. Whether it was the window or the door, the throng of the guardians was seen as they were desperately trying to reach the office clerks to show the copies of the fee deposit receipt today morning.

This was an unusual scene on the day of the declaration of the final results of all the classes except tenth and twelfth.

This mob converged due to instructions on the part of the school no fee, no result.
