India: 10 rebel K'taka MLAs of Cong and JD(S) move SC

New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Ten rebel Karnataka MLAs of Congress and JD(S) Wednesday moved the Supreme Court, alleging that the Assembly Speaker has been deliberately not accepting their resignations.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi took note of the submission of senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the rebel MLAs, and assured him that it will see whether their petition can be listed for an urgent hearing tomorrow.

India: Dalit hacked by upper caste in-laws in presence of officials

25-year-old Haresh Kumar Solanki, a Dalit man, was hacked to death by eight men outside his wife’s house, allegedly by his upper-caste in-laws, in the presence of a women’s helpline team in Varmor village of Ahmedabad district Monday evening.

Solanki, from Gandhidham in Kutch, married Urmila Zala, who is two months pregnant, almost six months ago but her parents, disapproving the inter-cast marriage, had brought her back to Varmor.

India: MLA registers strong protest at water-logging

Kanpur: A legislature has adopted unique way to register his protest at the Municipal Corporation' s failure in controlling the menace of water-logging in the city areas during the ongoing rains. On Tuesday he reached the office of Nagar Ayukt to present a replica of boat with the inscription of 'Nakaami Gangey'. He also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Urban devevelopment Minister, UP Govt, Suresh Khanna significantly mentioning the city's poor condition. Side by side he also raised demand for action against irresponsible officers of the KMC. 

India: Cong to seek disqualification of MLAs who have resigned

Bengaluru, Jul 9 (PTI) Congress Legislature Party leader in Karnataka Siddaramaiah said Wednesday the party would seek the disqualification of rebel MLAs who have resigned.

The former chief minister also requested the 10 party MLAs who had resigned to come back or face the consequences.

Srinagar; 8 July 2019; GANASHAKTINational Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Sunday lashed out at the Jammu and Kashmir governor and said it was the "height of incompetence and laziness" that S P Malik-led administration required restriction on movement of civilian vehicles on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway for the security of Amarnath pilgrims.

Abdullah, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said the governor's administration was the only administration in 30 years that has required the closure of the highway.

India: Ayodhya land dispute: A litigant moves SC for early hearing

New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) One of the original litigants in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute in Ayodhya Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking early hearing of the matter.

The litigant said that nothing much has been happening in the case which was referred to a three-member panel of mediators, headed by former apex court judge Justice F M I Kalifulla, to explore an amicable solution.

India: Woman Naxal terrorist killed in encounter with police

Raipur, Jul 9 (PTI) A woman Naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday morning, police said.

The skirmish took place around 6 am at a forest near Dabbakonta village when a joint team of security forces was out on a counter-insurgency operation, Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI.

Personnel belonging to the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA-an elite unit of CRPF), Special Task Force and District Reserve Guard were involved in the operation, he said.

India: BJP resorting to politics of poaching in Karnataka: Cong

New Delhi, Jul (PTI) The Congress on Tuesday staged a walkout in Lok Sabha after accusing the BJP of indulging in "politics of poaching" in Karnataka, a charge denied by the ruling party at the Centre.

The Congress tried to raise the issue in Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, but was disallowed by Speaker Om Birla, who said the matter was discussed in the House on Monday with a response from Deputy Leader of House Rajnath Singh.

Birla said the Congress had given an adjournment motion to discuss the Karnataka issue, which he has disallowed.

India: Man sentenced to life for raping 3 minor girls

Karimnagar (Telangana), Jul 8 (PTI) A court here Monday sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for raping three minor girls in 2014.

According to the prosecution, accused Lingampally Kishan (42), of Choppadandi town, was a brick kiln owner and had engaged labourers from Odisha.

On March 16, 2014, he had dragged a 16-year-old daughter of a labourer to his office and allegedly raped her.

Indian budget: Tharoor uses cricket analogy to criticise

New Delhi, Jul 8(PTI) The Union Budget has "unnecessarily defensive strokes, dropped catches and quite a few no balls", Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said in Lok Sabha on Monday, slamming the government for allegedly not addressing key issues facing the economy, including farm distress, and raising fuel prices.

Tharoor, who was initiating discussion on the Union Budget for 2019-20 in Lok Sabha, used cricket analogy to target the Centre.
