India: MLA registers strong protest at water-logging

Kanpur: A legislature has adopted unique way to register his protest at the Municipal Corporation' s failure in controlling the menace of water-logging in the city areas during the ongoing rains. On Tuesday he reached the office of Nagar Ayukt to present a replica of boat with the inscription of 'Nakaami Gangey'. He also submitted a memorandum addressed to the Urban devevelopment Minister, UP Govt, Suresh Khanna significantly mentioning the city's poor condition. Side by side he also raised demand for action against irresponsible officers of the KMC.

It was certainly the first time he was showing his strong annoyance against the careless civic authorities. Earlier he had approached the Jal Nigam office to pay the water tax by taking the wife's jewellery. This incident took place about eight months ago, according to the reports.

The Aryanagar MLA Amitabh Bajpai looked disturbed with the cleanliness steps being undertaken under the Nmami Gangey Project.

He complained that the whole of the city has nearly turned into a river owing to the water-logging. Most of the drains are choked and rubbish is scattered all around. There is comparatively scant effort in cleaning the city roads. City' small or big drains are stuffed with silt and trashes. Even the big drains like Kalyanpur nullah and Gwaltoli nullah are closed. The rain water is entering into the residential areas. The movement on the road has become a very risky experience.

He did not stop to say that the Nagar Nigam was making full efforts in easing the worse situation despite several demonstrations.

He also alleged that a huge amount had been spent in cleaning work but the first rain in the city areas exposed the reality.
