Idia: Three lynched in Bihar village on suspicion of cattle theft

Chapra, Jul 19; GANASHAKTI: Three people were lynched at a village in Bihar's Saran district Friday morning by a mob that caught hold of them while they were allegedly stealing cattle, police said.

The incident took place in the wee hours at Paigambarpur village under Baniapur police station.

The deceased have been identified as Raju Nat, Bides Nat and Naushad Qureshi, Superintendent of Police Har Kishore Rai said.

India: SC queries Centre, Assam on re-verification of NRC

New Delhi, July 19; IANS/GANASHAKTI: The Supreme Court on Friday questioned the Centre and the Assam government's request seeking extension on the publication of the final NRC citing 20 per cent re-verification of the draft NRC data to rule out discrepancies. The NRC is scheduled for publication on July 31.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre and Assam, said: "We cannot afford to become the refugee capital in the world." He demanded extension for re-verification.

India: Sonebhadra carnage: 200 men on 32 tractors fired for an hour

Sonebhadra, July 19; IANS/GANASHAKTI: The bloody clashes that left 10 persons dead in Murtiya village in Sonebhadra now seem like a scene straight out of a Bollywood potboiler.

According to reports, the village head and the main accused in the massacre, Yagya Dutt, had brought about 200 men on 32 tractor trolleys to take possession of the disputed land.

After the tribals who were tilling the land, opposed his attempt to take possession of the land, Yagya Dutt's men fired at them for over half-an-hour.

"The Chief Minister has failed to prove majority by 1.30 p.m. on Friday as asked by the Governor," Opposition BJP leader B.S. Yeddurappa told Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar in the House and pressed for conducting floor test on the confidence motion that Kumaraswamy moved on Thursday.

India: Mohd Mansoor Khan arrested in Delhi, being questioned by ED

Bengaluru, Jul 19 (PTI) Mohammed Mansoor Khan, the owner of IMA jewels, has been arrested in New Delhi by the Enforcement Directorate and is being questioned by it, said a special investigation team here which is probing the alleged ponzi scam.

Khan, who had fled to Dubai, flew back to India and was arrested on landing in Delhi, it said in a statement.

The SIT said that its sources in Dubai persuaded him to come back and submit himself before the law.

India: Priyanka Gandhi stopped from meeting Sonbhadra clash victims

Lucknow Jul 19 (PTI) Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi was Friday stopped in Mirzapur district from proceeding towards Sonbhadra to meet the victims of a clash that claimed 10 lives.

Nineteen people were injured in the incident on Wednesday in Uttar Pradesh. Some of them were admitted to a hospital in Varanasi and the others at a health facility in Sonbhadra district.

India: Communal clash in Maharashtra's Parbhani district

Mumbai, Jul 18 (PTI) An incident of eve-teasing led to a communal clash in Maharashtra's Parbhani district, police said Thursday.

While tension prevailed, the situation in Palam town of the district was now under control, a police official told PTI.

A girl was allegedly teased by a group of youths in the town Wednesday evening, which led to clashes between two communities.

India: Bihar floods leave 78 dead; over 50 lakh people affected

Patna, Jul 18 (PTI) Flash floods caused by torrential rains in catchment areas of Nepal have ravaged a dozen districts of Bihar so far, claiming 78 lives and affecting 55 lakh people, the state's disaster management department said Thursday.

Sitamarhi reported the highest number of 18 casualties, followed by Madhubani (14), Araria (12), Sheohar and Darbhanga (nine each), Purnea (seven), Kishanganj (four), Supaul (three) and East Champaran (two), it said in a release.

The death toll increased by 11 since Wednesday, when it stood at 67.

India: Minor girl abducted, killed in HP's Kullu

Shimla, Jul 18 (PTI) A minor girl who was kidnapped over two weeks ago was found dead in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Thursday and a man she was friends with has been arrested in this connection, police said.

Sonu Ram, 21 and of Nashala village, has been arrested for her abduction and killing, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said.
