New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI) The Supreme Court Thursday allowed mediation process in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case to continue and sought a report on its outcome by August 1.

A five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, said that after perusing the report filed by the mediation panel, it will take a call on August 2 on whether hearing is required in the case.

Kanpur: City Mayor's sudden visit to Nagar Nigam Workshop at Fazalganj area was a matter of surprise for the officials there. She arrived at the place on Thursday morning. When she started inquiring about the non-use of a few small vehicles parked at the Workshop premises, the officers could not provide a satisfactory reply. They also did not answer why we're vehicles not brought into use for the past two months.

A total of 38 employees were posted at the Workshop but not all found on duty. Thereupon she sought the detailed report on them from the office.

New Delhi, Jul 15 (PTI) A special judge holding trial in Babri Masjid demolition case, involving BJP veterans L K Advani, M M Joshi and others, Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking six more months to conclude the trial in the case.

The special judge, in a letter written in May, has informed the top court that he is due to superannuate on September 30, 2019.

New Delhi, July 16 (PTI) Attacking the government in the Lok Sabha, the Opposition DMK Tuesday said the condition of the farmers in the country is pathetic.

Party Member S S Palanimanickam said farmers are lagging behind every other profession in the country.

"BJP said that they would be doubling the income of farmers but they are only repeating the same slogan because there is a big gap between their saying and action," he said.

Thane, Jul 16 (PTI) The city police have arrested a so-called godman and another person on the charge of cheating a woman of Rs 15 lakh promising to solve her family's problems.

The woman, a city resident, had approached Ganesh Salunke, an acquaintance, for help, as her family had faced several troubles in the recent time, including her son meeting with an accident.

Salunke allegedly referred her to Rahul More, a police officer said Tuesday.

New Delhi, Jul 16 (PTI) The BJP on Tuesday appointed OBC leader Swatantra Dev Singh and Maratha leader Chandrakant Patil as the president of its Uttar Pradesh and poll-bound Maharashtra units, respectively.

Both leaders have a RSS background and are well-regarded in the party for their organisational ability.

Singh replaces Mahendra Nath Pandey and Chandrakant Patil comes in the place of Raosaheb Danve Patil.

New Delhi, Jul 16 (PTI) As many as 71 per cent people feel that press freedom is threatened in India, according to a new poll.

Neta app, a technology platform that lets users rate and review politicians, conducted a poll to get people's opinion with respect to freedom of press in the country.

The firm said more than 75,000 people across 19 states and the NCR took part in the poll.

Puducherry, July 16 (PTI) Doctors and health staff of a government hospital here went on a two-hour-long strike Tuesday to protest against the alleged assault on their colleagues by a group of people for the delay in arranging a hearse to take their relative's body, police said.

Doctors and employees in various primary health centres and government hospitals in the peripheral pockets also resorted to a strike to seek protection to the medicos and arrest of all those who allegedly assaulted the doctors and damaged property.

Gandhinagar, Jul 16 (PTI) As many as 222 lions died, most of them due to natural causes, in the Gir forest region in Gujarat in the last two years, the Legislative Assembly was told Tuesday.

Among them, only 23 lions died because of "unnatural" causes such as getting hit by trains or falling into wells between June 2017 and May 2019.

New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) Delhi government launched "Happiness Utsav" in its schools Tuesday to celebrate completion of a year of introduction of its happiness curriculum.

During the festival, the first 50 minutes of each day, all children studying in Delhi govt schools will take part in various activities.

"The Delhi government is celebrating the Happiness Utsav to mark the first year of the curriculum's launch. On Day 1, the children were involved in a drawing mela, where they drew on the subject 'What makes you happy?'," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said.
