Indian Journalist of news channel that irked Yogi gets bail from Allahabad HC

Noida (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) A journalist of a TV news channel, accused of airing defamatory content on UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court in a fraud and forgery case on Tuesday, his lawyer said.

Anuj Shukla, the managing editor of the Noida-based Nation Live channel, has been given the relief by Justice Ajit Singh, who heard the matter at court number 80 this morning, lawyer Nitin Gupta told PTI.

Stock markets extended their losses for a third straight day with cumulative losses of 3.05 per cent or 1,184.15 points since July 18.

The 30-share index on Monday cracked 305.88 points or 0.80 per cent to settle at 38,031.13, a level not seen since May 17.

Jammu, Jul 22 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress on Monday termed as "irresponsible" the statement of state Governor Satya Pal Malik that militants should stop killing innocent people and target the corrupt.

The Congress party, however, said it fully supports any drive to fight corruption in the state but there should not be a selective approach in the fight.

India: Four booked for raping Dalit girl

Gorakhpur (UP), Jul 22 (PTI) Four people were booked for allegedly raping a Class 12 Dalit girl and making a video of the crime in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district, police said Monday.

Citing a complaint lodged by the relatives of the victim, police said the girl had gone to relieve herself on Sunday evening when a villager harassed her.

When she resisted to his advances, two other men raped her. Later, one more person committed the crime and made a video of it.

India: Man held for attempting to rape woman in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Jul 23 (PTI) A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a woman while she was sleeping on the terrace of her house in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday night in the district's Bhopa village, they said.

According to the complaint registered by the woman's husband, she was sleeping on the terrace when their neighbour, Roopesh Kumar, came there and tried to rape her. He fled when she raised an alarm.

India: UP Cops 'thrash' ice-cream vendor for demanding payment

Noida (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) Two Noida police officials allegedly thrashed an ice-cream vendor after he asked them to pay Rs 50 for the dessert they had bought from him, officials said.

A video of the police officials thrashing the vendor is circulating on social media, with officials saying the incident took place on July 13.

The two officials attached to the Barola police post under Sector 49 police station had bought ice creams worth Rs 50 and when the vendor, Amit Kumar (Tinku), asked them for payment, they thrashed him.

India: 1955 revenue records of Sonbhadra disputed land missing

Sonbhadra (UP), Jul 23 (PTI) Investigations into the clash, which left 10 people dead in a Sonbhadra village last week, might face a major hurdle as the 1955 revenue records of the land disputed by the rival parties have been missing.

On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had suggested the genesis of the land dispute was laid in 1955, during the Congress rule, and said the committee set up to investigate the shooting incident in Gharowal area of Sonbhadra district will look into this.

India: No such request made by PM Modi: Jaishankar on Trump's claim

New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) Amid a massive controversy over US President Donald Trump's claim on Kashmir mediation, India Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi never made any such request to the US leader and reiterated that Kashmir is a bilateral issue.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said in Rajya Sabha that all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan can be discussed only bilaterally, thereby ruling out any third party mediation.

India launches spacecraft to explore water deposits on moon

NEW DELHI (AP) — India sent a spacecraft to explore water deposits on the far side of the moon in a successful launch Monday after a technical problem caused a week’s delay.

Scientists at the mission control center burst into applause as the rocket lifted off in clear weather as scheduled at 2:43 p.m. from Sriharikota in southern India. K. Sivan, head of India’s space agency, said the rocket successfully injected the spacecraft into orbit.
