India: Two groups clashed in Punjab; 3 injured

Amritsar (Punjab), Aug 2 (PTI) Three persons were injured after gunshots were fired in a clash between two groups here on Friday, police said.

The clash occurred after some animals belonging to a volunteer group entered the fields owned by Sikh seminary Damdami Taksal, the police said.

Members of the seminary asked the other group to move the animals out of the agricultural fields. However, they refused and this led to the clash, an officer said

Kashmiri killed by Indian security forces in Shopian Dist of Indian administered Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 02: A Kashmiri has been killed in an alleged encounter with Indian security forces in Shopian district of Indian administered Kashmir, an Indian official said.

The Indian security forces' spokesperson alleged that a cordon and search operation was underway in the area following information about presence of Kashmiri separatist.

India orders pilgrims to leave Kashmir amid troop buildup

India: Flour mill in J&K's Udhampur sealed

Jammu, Aug 2 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday sealed a flour mill in Udhampur district after the manufacturing unit was found flouting the norms, officials said.

A special team constituted by Food and Drugs (F&D) Administration sealed the Shalimar Flour Mill after finding irregularities, the officials said.

The inspecting team found lack of any quality check system, incorrect printing of date of manufacturing on bags and inappropriate storage of food material, they said.

India: Seven naxal terrorists killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Aug 3 (PTI) Seven Maoists were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday, police said.

The exchange of fire occurred around 6 am in the forest near Sitagota village under Baghnadi police station area, when a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI.

So far, seven bodies along with a huge cache of weapons, including one AK-47, have been found from the spot, he said.

India: Mamata declares rural Bengal open defecation free

Kolkata, Aug 3 (PTI) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared rural West Bengal as open defecation free (ODF) and said that her government will now focus on solid waste management.

Around 1.35 crore households in rural Bengal have been covered by the 'Mission Nirmal Bangla', which aimed at making all villages open defecation free (ODF) by October 2.

Maldives Ex-Vice President, who sought asylum in India, sent back

Tuticorin (TN), Aug 3 (PTI) Former Vice President of Maldives Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor, who had sought political asylum from India, has been sent back to his home country, police said on Saturday.

Adheeb, who arrived here on Thursday on a cargo vessel along with nine crew members, was not allowed to enter India as he did not possess valid documents.

He was not allowed to disembark from the ship and was questioned on-board by various central agencies, they said.

India: Panic grips in Kashmir after J-K govt asks yatris, tourists to leave Valley

Srinagar, Aug 2 (PTI) Kashmir remained on the edge on Friday as a fresh order asking tourists and Amarnath yatris to leave the Valley triggered panic among the residents as they started stocking up dry ration and essentials, fearing long law and order disturbance.

The state government issued an advisory to Amarnath pilgrims and tourists to curtail their stay in Kashmir immediately.

India: COD bridge's second lane to be ready by August 30

Kanpur: The second lane of the COD bridge is not supposed to be ready by August 15. Despite the district administration's directives to the bridge construction company for completing the work up to Aug 15, there is no chance of completion as the engineers too don't see it possible.

The claim on the NH public works department engineers is that about 90% of work has been completed but the reality is that slab on two spots is still to be done in the second lane. Apart from this, there is work of road construction.

India: Troop deployment in J-K based on internal security situation: MHA

New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Home Ministry on Friday said the deployment of paramilitary forces in Jammu and Kashmir was based on the security situation there and requirements of rotation, and that such things are not discussed in the public domain.

Sources in the ministry said 100 companies (10,000 personnel) of central forces were ordered for deployment in the state about a week ago and they are in the process of reaching their destinations.

This has apparently led to speculation of induction of additional forces, they said.
