India: Man held for killing 21-day-old daughter

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly killing his 21-day-old daughter following a fight with his wife in Dwarka's Bindapur area, police said on Monday.

Mukesh (26) allegedly strangulated his daughter and then drowned her in a water tank on Friday, they said.

Kiran (23), the girl's mother, lodged a police complaint against her husband who is a businessman.

India: Woman killed for dowry by in-laws in Haryana

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) A 63-year-old man filed a case on Monday against the in-laws of her daughter for allegedly killing her for dowry in Rohini's Kanjhawala area, police said.

In his complaint, Lakhi Ram, a resident of Kaithal in Haryana, stated that his daughter Meena married Ajay on January 21, 2015 in Qutubgarh village.

India: Five naxal terrorists held in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Sep 10 (PTI) Five naxals were arrested in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district by a joint team of security forces from the forests of Bandaguda village, police said on Tuesday.

They were apprehended on Monday by a composite squad of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) and local police during a search operation in Bandaguda, Chipurbhatti, Pusbaka and Pegdapalli villages, a police official said.

Pakistan's former legislator seeks asylum in India

Chandigarh, Sep 10 (PTI) A former legislator from Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has sought asylum in India, claiming that minorities were deprived of their rights in the neighbouring nation.

Baldev Kumar (43), along with his wife and two children came to India last month and is presently staying at Khanna in Punjab's Ludhiana district.

"I have come here to seek asylum and will request (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi Sahib to help us," Kumar told reporters in Khanna on Tuesday.

India: Minor girl gangraped in Rajasthan's Bhilwara

Jaipur, Sep 10 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by three men in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district, police said on Tuesday.

The girl, along with her friend, was going to a temple on Monday evening when the three accused, who were consuming alcohol liquor at a roadside, allegedly attacked them and forcibly took them to an isolated place, they said.

The men allegedly raped one of the girls while the other managed to escape and rushed to her home, police said.

India: ED serves a show cause notice to Amnesty International

New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) Human rights watchdog Amnesty International India on Tuesday denied charges of violating the foreign exchange law after it was recently served with a show cause notice by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

"Amnesty International India acknowledges that Amnesty International India Private Limited has received a show cause notice from the Enforcement Directorate."

India: ISRO racing against time to salvage lander-rover

Bengaluru, Sept 10 (PTI) ISRO is racing against time to spring 'Vikram' back to life and salvage the lander-rover part of the Chandrayaan-2 mission.

The lander Vikram, with rover 'Pragyan' tucked inside it, lost communication with the ground-stations during its final descent, just 2.1 kms above the lunar surface, minutes before the planned soft-landing in the early hours of Saturday.

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) said on Sunday Vikram had a "hard-landing".

China, India Vow To Deepen Cooperation At 6th Strategic Economic Dialogue Held In India

NEW DELHI, Sept 10 (NNN-PTI) – The Sixth China-India Strategic Economic Dialogue, and the China-India Economic Cooperation Forum, were held here on Monday, with both sides exchanging views on macroeconomic policies and reaching consensus in pragmatic cooperation.

During the dialogue, China and India reviewed progress of the working groups and exchanged views on the macroeconomic situation and bilateral pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.

India: Foreign student charges IIT teacher of sexual harassment

KANPUR: A foreign student who was taking her course in civil engineering under a foreign exchange programme at IIT here, complained of sexual harassment.

When the student informed her country's embassy the matter started moving around. She initially approached the institute's women cell for registering her complaint. When her voice was not heard she made a call to the embassy. It is then the institute's officials responded.
