Kashmiris allege night terror by Indian troops in crackdown

HEFF SHIRMAL, India (AP) — The Indian soldiers descended on Bashir Ahmed Dar’s house in southern Kashmir on Aug. 10, a few days after the government in New Delhi stripped the disputed Himalayan region of its statehood and launched a crackdown. Over the next 48 hours, the 50-year-old plumber said he was subjected to two separate rounds of beatings by soldiers.

They demanded that he find his younger brother, who had joined rebels opposing India’s presence in the Muslim majority region, and persuade him to surrender or else “face the music.”

India: Jajmau residents fret and fume at power cut on Muharram

Kanpur:  A procession on Ashura has been taken out in Jajmau area here on Tuesday. It was an Alam juror attended by a large number of people.  

On both sides of the road, the people were waiting for the Muharram procession which passing through different localities finally culminated at Dada Miya ki Mazar. 

Earlier,  the busy roads were seen as completely vacant as the shops were closed. When one shopkeeper in Purani Sabzi Mandi area was asked why were a few shops closed?  His quick response was it was because of Muharram. 

India rejects reference of J-K in Pak-China joint statement

New Delhi, Sep 10; GANASHAKTI: India on Tuesday objected to the reference made to Jammu and Kashmir in a China-Pakistan joint statement issued after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Islamabad.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar also talked about the China-Pakistan economic corridor in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir, asserting that India is "resolutely opposed" to any actions by other countries to change the status quo in the region.

India: Bihar police makes bikers buy helmets, get insurance renewed on spot

Motihari (Bihar), Sep 10 (PTI) Motorcycle riders in Bihar's Motihari town are getting the surprise of their lives upon being let off by police for riding without helmet or lapsed insurance, but not before they purchase the headgear from vendors or get their policy renewed through agents present there.

The drive has been launched in East Champaran district's Motihari by Chhatauni police station SHO Mukesh Chandra Kunwar.

India: DCW says police delayed filing case against spa centres running prostitution

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) The Delhi Commission for Women on Monday said police registered a case after a delay of five days in connection with alleged sex rackets operating from spa and massage parlours in Nawada and Mohan Garden areas of West Delhi.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal and another panel member on September 4 carried out a surprise inspection at two spa centres in Dwarka police district.

During inspection, the panel claimed, the spa centres were found running prostitution rackets and one of them was operating without license.

Indian economy falling into deep abyss of recession: Priyanka

New Delhi, Sep 10 (PTI) Hitting out at the Modi government, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday said the economy is falling into a "deep abyss" of recession and asked when will the dispensation "open its eyes".

Her remarks comes amid opposition's criticism of the government after growth in the last quarter slipped to 5 per cent.

India: Statue of Ambedkar found damaged in UP

Ballia (UP), Sep 9 (PTI) A statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar was found damaged at Barauli village under the Bhimpura police station area here, police said.

Some anti-social elements damaged the statue on Sunday night, SHO Raj Kumar Singh said, adding that the villagers found the hand of the statute broken in the morning.

Senior police officers, who rushed to the spot, got the statue repaired, the SHO said.

He added that a case had been registered and the investigation was on.

Delhi: Two arrested in suspected honour killing case

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) In a suspected case of honour killing, a 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly strangling his daughter to death in July in northwest Delhi's Adarsh Nagar, police said on Monday.

Lakhan's friend Raju (30), both residents of Lal Bagh, was also arrested on Sunday in connection with the killing, they said.

According to police, on July 24, they were informed that an 18-year-old woman committed suicide and her family members took her to cremation ground in a "hurry".

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) Amid reports of Pakistan's plans to raise the Kashmir issue at the UN Human Rights Council, the Congress on Monday said with what face will that country talk about Kashmir after releasing JeM chief Masood Azhar, who is issuing threats to Indian security forces.

The Congress's attack on Pakistan came after reports that Islamabad has released Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Azhar to carry out terror attacks in India.

Indian Woman (38) pregnant for 20th time in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Sep 9 (PTI) In a rare occurrence, a woman from Maharashtra has become pregnant for the 20th time, doctors said on Monday.

The 38-year-old woman from Beed district, who has had 16 successful deliveries and three abortions so far, is now seven months' pregnant, doctors said.

Each time, she delivered a single child and five of them died within a few hours or days of delivery, while 11 have survived, doctors said.
